Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a small snappy android phone as an upgrade from the HTC Wildfire. Budget is sub $300.
I want a slightly bigger screen around 3.5".
I had a look at wildfire s but the screen is still a bit too small…
Thanks!!

Galaxy Ace would fit you quite nicely, $150-250 range and 3.5 inch screen. Though it won't get ICS officially :(
Screen is too grainy. Galaxy W would be the best value.

Allphones have some pretty good deals on outright phones.
$228 Huawei Vision - review http://www.cnet.com.au/huawei-vision-339326985.htm
$289 LG optimus black - review http://www.cnet.com.au/lg-optimus-black-339308504.htm?
And you can use their phony $200 coupon "NOT" :-(
According to this: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1851824 , the Samsung Galaxy W or the Google Nexus S, are both $300 (give or take a few dollars), and seem reasonable deals. They're both larger than the wildfire though, but they're still phone size, not "phablet" size. Side-by-side comparisons against your current phone: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3337&idPhone2=… and http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3337&idPhone2=… . Mostly you get a better screen and a faster processor.
Below that price level with those 2 models, I kind of feel the current offerings are a rather weak. My current phone is very similar to yours, but in a cheaper brand ( http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3337&idPhone2=… ), so I suspect we're in similar situations. Current phone does the job, but I could do with an upgrade, especially of screen and processor, but it's a first-world gadget-envy want, not a need.
I'm looking at anything between $200 and $300 with a 800x480 or better screen resolution and preferably the latest Android (ICS, version 4). Personally I'm going to hold off a bit until I can see that people have cyanogenmod 9 (the ICS version of a modified version of Android) running well on either one of those 2 phones. It'll probably take a month or two, because they're still busily working on that software. Of course, I reserve the right to change plans if something better comes along :-)
But if you want to buy now, either one of those 2 phones (Samsung Galaxy W or the Google Nexus S) should be fine. Former you can get for $299: http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Samsung%20Galax… ; latter is $299 in a FEW DSE stores, although stock levels are getting low: http://dicksmith.com.au/product/EM5029/vodafone-nexus-s-andr… and click "check store stock". Good luck!
