Zoom/Teams/Google Meets Unstable Internet Connection

Assistance appreciated.

I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad few weeks ago and I been having problem with my online meetings. It keeps lagging or shows unstable internet.

We don't have issues on two other laptops being used by my kids at home which is also connected to the same network. Speed Test shows 50+Mbps download speed and 20+Mbps upload speed.

I updated the windows and checked the wifi driver and it was up to date.

I followed a lot of instructions I found in google but nothing worked. I contacted Lenovo tech support and they controlled my laptop remotely to check and I was told there is no issues.

Anyone experienced this issue before and found a solution?

  • It might be my fault; I'm copying a few files from one drive to another.

Do you have dual networks? 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ? Have you tried both?

How about hot spotting off your phone, does it do the same thing?

Just need to isolate whether it is network related or the device.

Yeah, I tried both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ and I got same results. I have not tried hot spotting yet. I'll give it a go.

    • Latency affects video calls, try using an ethernet cable.

    • Speedtests can be misleading, they will default to your ISPs servers where they will hit your promised connection speeds. Try a few other servers and see if there is much discrepancy.

    • Will try this mate

  • what is it like with an ethernet cable?

      Ethernet works fine.

If they are using Zoom/Teams/Google Meets with no issues, then it would point to an issue with the laptop you would think?

    • Yes, it might well be the case. Been trying to get Lenovo to replace it and they keep telling me that there is nothing wrong. So I'm just trying to find out if there is an alternative solution while I'm still arguing with Lenovo.

  • I have lenovo yoga c530 and it always had network issues. I tried search web but could not find a solution.

    • I tried a lot of recommended solution as well from google but nothing fixed the issue.

  • How much ram do you have? If it’s a cheap laptop, it may not cop with the demand of video conferencing.

It’s often not an internet issue when it comes to conferencing

    • Ram is 16GB
