Headphones/Earphones + Mic for WFH

Hi all,

Traditionally I have used AirPods and connected them to a MacBook for any WFH zoom/meet/teams meeting. It worked perfectly

Lately I have started a job at a company that only offers a windows Laptop and it does not pair properly (or most times at all) with my AirPods

I need some headphones or earphones for work meetings.

My budget would be under $150. Wireless preferred, but only if they sync well to a windows laptop.

Also, I am not a fan of the ‘in ear’ type, which is why I prefer regular AirPods versus the AirPods Pro

Thanks all

You can get Soundpeats pods from Amazon for like $50 - decent enough but won't blow the lights out

Given I've killed 2 sets of Jabras in the last 2.5 years I don't want to be spending too much any more.

  • i have found lately that the old cheapo ebay $10 akg earphones (wired) has outperformed my buds, qc35ii in terms of mic voice quality . go figure

  • koss porta pro wireless are great if you need bluetooth, but the normal koss porta pros (cheaper, lifetime warranty, better sound quality) are even better if you can stomach a wire.

a lot lighter than just about all other headphones and probably not noticeable at all if you are wearing a beanie or have long hair.

  • I’m using Jabra evolve2 40, they’re nice and comes with type c.

  • Have you contacted your IT or HR dept? They might have a headset they can provide or a list of headsets approved for reimbursement. My vote would be for a USB headset as BT is always a pain IME.

My setup just consists of $50 SoundPeats earphones. For the microphone though I'm using a Kmart USB mic that i got for $2.50 that has a physical mute button.

  • Samsung buds live?

  • Thanks all for suggestions so far

I’ve also found some headphone are really poor at isolating background noise. But maybe that is more of a windows thing.

    • if you'd prefer headphones to isolate background noise, you need closed back headphones. if there is a lot of background noise, you want active noise cancellation (which tends to cost a fair bit more)

some headphones are open back which some people prefer for listening to music but people next to you will be able to hear what you're playing with them and they let in outside noise as well.
