Package Taken/ Stolen after Delivery

Hi All,

Two days ago i got a package delivered to my place and placed on top of the mailbox. It came few days early and the delivery person did not ring my intercom to notify it was delivered, i was home the whole day.
Yesterday night i checked Amazon and it says delivered with photos which make it unclear whose name is the package blurred out with 5.30pm timing. I check the mailbox area regularly.
Other packages were left untouched so why would someone just steal mine. Item value was around $50. Present for my partner.
Any advice what i can do here?

Thanks, I wasn't aware of the amazon one. But have seen the Aus post one before. My local is not the most convenient location from home, so it would be a hassle to pick it up from there.
Was thinking something more immediate about how to get the one that may have been stolen or picked up accidently?

If you are inconvenienced by the theft, you'll need to weigh up if picking items up from a locker is a greater inconvenience.

First time it was stolen in like 10yrs…. but might be worth it for more expensive items..

@sagrules: Definitely, I have everything to a PO box for safe collection, where the sender permits.

@sagrules: If you only have lost $50 in 10 yrs that a good enough risk profile to keep getting them delivered to your location for convenience .
I've had 1K packages sticking out like a paper on my letter box for me sometimes to pay attention to when the Postie is coming when something big is ordered :)

      • Hi,

You can lodge a case with Amazon saying it was never received and you'll likely receive a refund. Do it too often however and you'll end up banned. On top of a mailbox is hardly a secure location to leave a package. I've had it happen once. Photo showing it on my door step except in my case it was supposedly delivered 10min ago so I go out to check and it's not there. I find it hard to believe it was stolen within 10min so think the delivery person took it after taking the photo but obviously can't prove it. Lodged the issue with Amazon and received a refund and $5 credit for the inconvenience. Mine was only a $20 order though but I've had several others that have simply been lost and never delivered and all refunded.

Thanks for that information. Yes, that was my next attempt. I'm also thinking they took a photo and stole it, we have supposed CCTV in the building common area so will try that and if not, i will do it via amazon.
Strange that they randomly stole only that package when there were others there…

      • Maybe at the time of theft your package was the only one there?

        • No in the photo there was one next to it

    • Can you please advise how you got the refund? Tried to contact Amazon, first time got told need to contact Auspost? and then also the seller?
Then 3rd chat person told me after contacted seller to notify item was stolen, said to wait 2 business days before i can lodge a claim.
Is that similar to what you had to do?

      • No, I just started here: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/help/customer/contact-us/ref=cu… which you get to via the Help link at the bottom of the page then Need More Help? again at the bottom of the page followed by Contact Us and then select the order and item in question and Where's My Stuff? for the issue. Never had to jump through any other hoops.

        • Can't see "where's my stuff?", can see options such as "Package didn't arrive".

You are not eligible to request a refund
Sorry, this order is not eligible for a refund under the A-to-z Guarantee. Please wait until 3 days after maximum estimated delivery or until the tracking status is marked as delivered. Note: We also require you to first contact the seller and wait for 48 hours before you are eligible to request a refund.

          Gives option to contact seller.

          • @sagrules: I'm guessing it's an item not actually sold by Amazon? That's the only reason I can think of as to why it would differ.

            • @apsilon: Thanks for confirming, this was via third party seller through Amazon

Are they required to knock? Legitimate question

    • +1

Nowhere to knock, its an apartment building, as a minimum they ring intercom

  • +1

Don't you get an email or notification as soon as the item is delivered?

    • No, I just checked my amazon app for an update and it was 2 days after the fact.
Estimated delivery was 15th Sept-29th Sept, and it came on 13th Sept.

      • +2

That's weird, I usually get an Amazon notification for delivery and delivered, texts, emails and notifications from Auspost app. Have you set up an Auspost account? If your delivered email came 2 days after delivery that would make a refund more in your favour Id think.

        • I didn't get any email notification, I just happened to check my Amazon app.

          • +1

@sagrules: yes thats weird, you're meant to get a notification as soon as its scanned at point of delivery. Find out why you didn't

  • Could be an Amazon Flex driver? Anyone can deliver amazon packages, just have to get insurance and have a sedan. They may have realised there's not to much Amazon can do if they knick packages now and then. App probably does not have a step for ringing the intercom to save time.

    • Could be, no idea, I have had amazon packages delivered before, and always get a call on intercom.

Put up an Arlo camera and video doorbell and connect to your iPhone …….

    • This wouldn't help as it was placed on top of common area mailbox

    • It would. You could then see who steals your parcels ………

      • no it wouldn't, if the mailbox is nowhere near your front door….

Delivery instructions while ordering, "PLACE ITEM ON DOORSTEP, RING BELL"! This is how I order through Amazon AU.
