Apple will release the iPad3 and keep the iPad2 on as the budget model. They are doing this successfully with the iPhone 4s, 4 and 3Gs.
Expect the new retail price to be $150-200 less than the current price.
The iPad3 will stay the same price as current iPad2 price, have double resolution, faster chipset, iPhone4s camera equipped and be available from the weekend.
I wouldn't buy the iPad2 at this stage unless it was a steal. (not stolen).

        • +1

          150-200 less…..
so apple is going to sell the ipad2 for $300?

The cheapest android tablet consistently sell for $399- and apple always overprices their products,

This is the discounted price. maybe $450 is going to the new price of the ipad2 if it remains on sale with the ipad3.

Consider the iphone 3gs- sells for $429 locked to a network. (smaller screen, single core, chunky)

Ever tried to get something repaired or fixed on an international warranty?
Not to mention, its about 10 times easier to be able to take something back to a shop front, rather than try to get warranty and explain problems with phone and email to an online seller.

      • +8

Apple warranty is international. Walk into any apple store.

      • +5

Nyman clearly you have not claimed a warranty with Apple product before. Their warranty is one of the best if not the best. With Apple product it does not really matter if you got it from local or overseas. A true penetration of 'international barrier' from Apple.

        • -5

I heard of there support being good and then I heard of it being the worse.

          Nothing special, like there products.

        • +4

Make an appointment with an Apple Store, walk out within 10 minutes with a replacement iPad/iPhone.

You tell me one other manufacture that will give you a replacement in store, 11months 29days after purchase and then your "nothing special" comment will be legitimate (rather than making you look like a clueless so & so).

        • +3

Macgyver, learn to differentiate between 'their', 'there' and 'they're' please.

        • -2

I was speaking generally for "international warranties" and not specifically an Apple warranty.

However, I have once had to do a warranty claim with an Apple product, and they sent my phone back because of "external damage which has caused the fault", despite there being none relevant to my claim (only damage a very small crack on the back of the glass on the phone) and my complaint being poor battery life - there are no local Apple stores here to try and talk to either, so all up, not thrilled with their support.

        • Macgyver, learn to differentiate between 'their', 'there' and 'they're' please.

Your just being pedantic. Don't get you're panties in a not.

          :D

        • Macgyver uses their, there and they're the way he wants to.

If one person got real good support does not mean every person gets good service!

Make an appointment with an Apple Store, walk out within 10 minutes with a replacement iPad/iPhone.

If you're lucky! Daughter took her iphone to the store to get a replacement 7 weeks ago, and still doesn't have it.

        • +2

Something strange going on there. Normal turnaround is less than 7days. Has she checked the status of her repair?

          https://selfsolve.apple.com/repairstatus/main.do

I have taken devices to the Perth Apple store that have been out of warranty and been given replacements. (iPhone 4, Apple Macbook Battery & Power Supply and a Apple Airport Extreme.)

The secret is not to demand anything.

Also be careful, a lot of people think that a store that sells Apple product is an Apple store (Macworks, Nextbyte etc) they are not. You MUST go to an Apple store.

        • BTW Paintoad, Apple replaces product with refurbished ones. so it's nothing exciting about getting replacement.
Apple doesn't have technical repair team in Australia, all the phones what they receive for replacement been sent to China & get refurbished there.

          Geewhiz, I call bs.

  • +3

Don't think it's fair to neg a local seller if only comparing to imports from Hong Kong, China etc… (if I read that neg comment correctly).

  • -1

I think it doesn't matter for apple products, its from which country they are importing, as far as all made by apple and warranty covered by apple store. There is no apple factory in australia, all made in fox com china.. then whats the difference, even with DSE they are getting there apple products from there, why we need to pay more to get it from a local retailer? Its not like buying a commodore or falcon thats locally made

Here what I did is try to help people to get the cheapest and i get neg for that.

    • -1

You need to pay more for it because someone has to pay for the costs to get it approved for local requirements - C tick/A tick, MEPs, electrical safety , and for its radio to be approved by ACMA. All that costs money, blame the authorities!

      • Apple does all these things before supplying it to australian market. Every country has same sort of regulations, so its not an excuse to hike the price in australia.

        • -1

You obviously dont know what you are talking about, A tick, MEPS and ACMA type approval are unique to Australia, which means Australian customers need to pay for it!

        • Markis10, this is not our problem, if local retailer can't beat any other online importers, then too bad. They shouldn't take consumers for granted.

        • We pay more because of GST. Whereas importing skips that. Also retailers in US don't include their sales tax in advertised prices. Apple products are now fairly priced in Auatralia. Move on

  • +1

what I mean is every country has there standards, but its called in different names

    • -1

Again not true, many countries dont give a $$$$ what you bring in, in Australia we have around 5 times the standards most other countries do, and we pay for it. Most retailers are making less money than the retailers overseas.

      • +1

Why is there always some guys Bulls**t about C-tick, A-tick……bla bla bla.

The point other guys is trying to put forward is that Apple products is produce in once standard and one specification and from most feed back there is no problem with warranty when you buy the goods overseas. Assume all this is true then why you want to pay more when your are essentially buying the same product.

And please don't give me the lesson on C-Tick and A-Tick cos importer only apply for one and use them on all their products. I can tell a product that is import by Synnex by just looking at the C-Tick. That shouldn't be the case but it is. So really these TICKs means F all if you know what I mean.

        • +1 well said.

  • Considering the ipad is a great device for multimedia, would 16g be enough for your everyday useage or would the next one up be better of?

    • +1

For me, the media that won't fit on a 16GB iPad wont' fit on a 64GB one anyway (my photo and video collection)

  • With the iPad 3 launch 2 days away when this was posted this special turned into a rip-off. Now $429 straight from the Apple website:
    http://store.apple.com/au/browse/home/shop_ipad/family/ipad/…

And since it was posted by a store rep I would expect more scrutiny than from a regular punter who might not have been aware of this. So neg.
