Is it worth replacing a Pixel 3 Battery?

I have a Pixel 3 that is having a pretty short battery life, just wondering if its worthwhile replacing the battery as it will cost around $150 or just upgrade to a new phone?

What's your budget? The Pixel 3 is still a perfectly capable phone IMO, depends on your budget and use case. If you can spend more than a $1000 then go for a new phone. After the release of the Pixel 6 the older Pixels will drop in price and those might be a good option for you.

    • Preferably less than $300

I was waiting for the release of the Pixel 6 for the Pixel 5 to drop in price. But it's out of stock or inflated price everywhere now.
      Ozbargaining gone wrong!

  • Nah. Refurbs are $200. Get a new phone or find a cheaper repairer.

    • Any recommendations on a new phone?

    • But do refrebs have new batteries? Most don't.

    • I saw that on oz bargain too, but read that they come with degraded batteries due to being old stock?

$150 seems pretty steep for a battery replacement. Somewhere between $70-$100 is what I've often gotten mine done for

    • Are they decent batteries though? That is the biggest issue with battery replacements.

My exp is that it's near impossible to get a good battery from ebay/online sellers. I'd go with ifixit batteries. I haven't bought from them before but i know they have a huge reputation to uphold so i imagine they'd be sourcing very high quality replacements. https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Android/Google-Pixel-3-Battery/…

Yes that has been my experience as well for most ebay/online sellers. Crappy batteries normally no better than what I pulled out!

Agreed. ifixit should have decent batteries.

I'd shop around on the battery replacement, sounds a little high to me.

  • When the battery on my Pixel 2 died I looked at options and decided against replacing the battery.

Whilst getting the battery and doing it myself was feasible cost-wise, I was concerned about stuffing it up and needing to get a new phone anyway.

Paying someone else to do the repair was (IMO) cost prohibitive. For less I got myself a new phone. The new phone is not as performant as the Pixel 2, but it is enough for my needs.

    Google Pixel 3 Battery Replacement

    Difficulty - Moderate

Looks like a lot of trouble to me unless you like doing stuff like that. Lots of delicate spudger work. How much does Google or a repair shop charge to replace battery? Ooops $150 - got it.

$150 is high, that's higher than CTDI who are the authorised Pixel repairer in Australia - http://www.ctdi.com.au/page/supply

  • Local repair shop said $79 and under an hour if it’s in stock; 1 week if needing to order @ iFixit Mobiles Cabulture store. DIY for under $30 if you have the tools and the time for a quality battery (crap ones are half this & YMMV)
