How much does your Termite Barrier Treatment Cost in Perth? Any Recommendations?

My dad's house is now due for a Termite Barrier Treatment, rang a few quotes but getting very wild pricings.

Just wondering if you can share the costs you paid for such service and how big is the house?

My dad's house is around 290sqm in actual building size.

Thanks

    DIY.

    Google: fipronil termite barrier

You can buy fipronil of eBay

  • Coming from a family with 2 pest control and termite businesses, it's not really worth the money. But… Yes, use termimesh and the likes. Can't help with telling you the cost, but know that termites just crawl up and over, or around, or the likes and still go wherever they want to eat.
You are best to double cover yourself and a professional sprayer agent every couple of years if you are in a termite prone area.
A building inspector will be able to check every few years also (if you are not sure) for about $1000 as well and provide a report.

I've not worked with either of the businesses in years, but remember seeing the damage the little b@5t@rd5 caused, even to new places with termimesh installed. Was really sad!

    Hope this helps.

  • You can use a chemical called, "Zeus". It's sold here, in Barragup, at Stanbee's Stock Feed. It's $50 for the large bottle. I didn't bother to look for better pricing as we were using it for "emergency" mosquito control. Being near so much water, we were being literally infested with mozzies around the house. We couldn't open any door without a dozen flying in. It was impossible to go outside— at all.

We sprayed the house (exterior walls, windows, and dug a trench along the house perimeter) completely with Zeus. That was in March. We're only now seeing a "few" mozzies & ants, not too bad considering we only used a part of the bottle. It is residual- meaning it will kill for a long time after application. Keep away from water/ponds, & bees.

In addition to the mozzies, we were overrun with black house ants, too. ALL of that came to an immediate stop the day we applied it. I found the odour invaded indoors almost worst than outside. As soon as it dried, odour was gone outside—- and opening windows after let the smell go.

My day-after walk around the house saw dead roaches I didn't even know we had! However, no dead skinks and just outside of this area were earthworms and many other insects doing fine.

    Good luck!

  • I spent $3k in Sydney to get holes drilled in the concrete paths around the outer perimeter and baits put in to them with a metal stopper cap. Took the guy 4 hours to install them, and comes back every 3 months to check them for 12 months…. possibly the most ripped off I have ever felt to be honest.

  • Fipronil is a very effective chemical. I had substantial damage to a rental property and had it commercially applied inside the walls. They also put a Bifenthrin barrier around the house.

I had this done about 13 years ago and recently reapplied. I got a special deal as I have annual inspections arranged.

I have actually helped my father in law treat his home for termites with fipronil by spraying in through the weep holes in the external bricks.

I also trenched earth and drilled holes in the concrete surrounding the external walls. I had bought one of those 12v power assisted spray units but had difficulty threading a rod that would take the pressure. I ended up sealing around a funnel with plasticine and letting gravity feed the holes hoping that the gravel under bed would distribute the poison evenly.

He had a number of professionals fail to rid his home of termites up to that point. What I did got rid of the infestation and prevented reinfestation.

Could be I got lucky. If used in the recommended concentration, termites don't recognise friponil as poison and could well transmit the poison to other termites killing the nest. In short I may not have got a professional 100% barrier, but just got a track to a nest or sprayed a large number of them.

Poisons are aptly named and if you are not experienced or confident in their application don't even try the diy route. Safety is paramount and if you don't look good in a disposable suit with a mask, gloves and goggles again don't be tempted to DIY.

My father in law had given up on controlling termites. A pre sale inspection 5 years later revealed past damage, but no active termites.

  • Costs for DIY route for under $600. Be careful to avoid pipes. Allow yourself a fullday.

    My recommended equipment list;
    2.5l Fipronil eBay $270
    12V 16L Electric Weed Sprayer ebay $90
    Ozito 900W SDS+ 3J Rotary Hammer Drill Bunnings $99
50 Concrete Seal Plugs Pest Injection Hole eBay $28
    Spare SDS drill bit ebay
    Plastic funnel
    Plastic buckets
    Safety goggles
    Neoprene gloves
    Disposable Mask
    Mattock and spade

  • Wonderful. Thanks for all the input guys. This heaps alot. I might DIY to save some money.
