Standing Desk Recommendations for WFH

Hi all,

Seeking to buy a sit/stand desk for WFH purposes. Budget is $800. Will have a 32" curved xiaomi monitor and laptop stand on it.

Identified the Ikea Idasen and it seems to be a reliable and sturdy table for the price along with a good motor. Can anyone that has used this recommend it or alternatively another standing desk at a similar or cheaper price point?

Black or white desk preferably.

Thank you.

  • Omnidesk?

  • +1

Was just about to say Omnidesk, my wife got her desk a few weeks ago and its been a game changer for her. They are expensive but are a great quality desk and its invaluable when it comes to working from home effectively and efficiently to have the right setup.

I have this one, used it standing up a few times in the beginning but not since. Luckily work paid for it. Other than not using it I think it's a good desk.

  • Here're some tips form my research.

    • Omnidesk, Zen Space and Desky all use the same frame, motor and controller. Zen space being the cheapest option at $913.95 for 150x80cm.
    • Omnidesk seems to get scratched up more easily and the cable management tray is much smaller to what is offered by Zen Space and Desky.
    • IKEA Idåsen has LINAK motors which are higher quality and offers more features.
    • Ikea has a weight limit 74kg however I'm quite confident it can handle 110kg. Not sure if weight limit is due to motor or the honey comb desk design.

I ended up choosing the IKEA Idåsen because of the motor and ended up liking the net cable management design. Although the desk has no memory control, they can be found in the LINAK mobile app or Desktop App as the motors have Bluetooth. The LINAK API is also on GitHub so I plan on using that to allow google home to control the height and set schedules to raise the desk in morning and alternate between siting and standing after that.

The only thing I hate about the Idåsen is that it has an uglier frame and the weight limit.

  • Just get a dual motor unit from eBay. They're all similar anyways.

Bought my frame for about $280 prior to EOFY with eBay discounts. 120kg limit, range from 60cm-127cm, memory setting.. Was a bit apprehensive on whether I would have actually use it to stand throughout the day. Can confirm that I do that 5-6 times a day from anywhere between 10-30min each time.

Throw whatever top you want on it, couldn't be happier with mine.

  • I bought the zen space desk and I'm pretty happy with it.

  • I bought an Omnidesk last year around Chrismas time.

I've got an XL with most of the accessories available (back then) - wireless charger, atlas footmat, headphone holder, power bar, computer holder, monitor arm.

Only thing I'd suggest is buying a good powerboard and taping it to the underside of the desk so that the power cables can go up and down as you do.
