LEGO 10278 Police Station Modular $249.99 Delivered @ Myer

640

Probably about the best price you'll find while its only available from Myer and lego.com (From memory this set gets excluded from the buy 1 get 1 50% off deals). I've been wanting to purchase this for a couple of weeks so was glad to see it go on special.

Stack with 5% gift cards and cashrewards to bring it down even further (this got it down to just over $226 for me).

  • Been this price before. Got it last time.

This is a fun build. Plenty of little things to find along the way.

    • Indeed it has. Looking forward to building it, we just finished the Book shop which was a good build to do as a family as we could split it into two (1 parent & 1 kid per half), hopefully we can do similar with this one.

if you feel book shop was good value, then you will love the police station..

Now I’m on the hunt for the diner at a reasonable price. Only resellers have them now :(

        • It'll only get more unreasonable. Though I'm having trouble biting that bullet myself.

Might just have to leave a hole in the town.

@eagerfisherman: Why not just buy a used one? If you decide to sell it in the future, you get your money back, or most likely a little extra.

            • @lilkid28: Used as in open and built?

Eh I don't feel good about that, I like to know I'm getting all original pieces.

@eagerfisherman: Just put a sign up saying 'Closed & demolished due to Covid' in the hole

        • Yeah im still kicking myself for not grabbing a Diner at RRP…..

  • Thanks! Wife will be happy

    • Ditto - thank you OP

Bought, thanks OP, hopefully the cashrewards stacks up (I too got it for ~$226 on paper)

    ACAB

  • can you pay by GC and get cashrewards?

    • I did. Strangely the cashrewards went through at 5% too, based on the product category I was expecting 2%. That's all theoretical until it goes from pending to approved though I guess….

Don't whinge guys when its $200 and down to $180 with giftcards .
    No way buying .

    • For a builder now, it's ok. Maybe not for you if you are into 'investing haha

    • Whinge? No…. buy a second set? Of course…..

      • Oh man I got stuck in that loop for Assembly Square during the earlier lockdowns. Triple-downed to average down but now it's so much cheaper. Ah well - good for the Lego city once we have time to build with our kids

        • I did the same thing, though only a second set. Assembly Square has a few good alternate builds on rebrickable.

    • Has the Bookshop been been that cheap? Since the Bookshop came out I dont think I've seen double discounted modular buildings.

      • Yeah it was $199 @ Myer in July.

        • But the normal price for the Bookshop $250 isn't it? So $199 seems about right. The Police Station is $300 so $100 would be a massive discount.

Seems like Myer does a flat amount off the RRP for Lego modular buildings?

          • @Dream-cast: I will buy The Police Station if it down to $225.

          • @Dream-cast: That's true, it is $250.

Though they also sold Corner Garage in the same sale at $199 and that's $300 RRP. So who knows.

(I didn't wait personally, $250 for this is enough for me, just commenting on prior prices)

  • Where do you get the Gift Cards at 5% off?

Serious answer - I'd be disappointed in myself if I did.

Quality is garbage, instructions are garbage, replayability is garbage because the blocks are garbage, and giving so much as a cent to Chinablocks is rewarding counterfeiting and plagiarism.

      • Fair enough, personally I haven't found the instructions or quality that bad - they look fantastic. Maybe I'll have to try a proper Lego one and compare.

Genuine Lego retains (and often increases) its value in many areas (particularly modulars), flego does not. So its a higher outlay but in the long run more often than not better value…. just my 2c

      • That 2c will increase in value though!

If you're going alternate bricks - Barweer is pretty good too. I've only placed 2 orders with them so far and they arrived faster than aliexpress orders do.

Leaving aside the copyright issues. The economics aren't so cut and dried. Let's consider a Lego set with a $200 RRP. I can buy that for $140-$150 with a 25%-30% discount (pretty achievable for most sets). Assume that I can build it and then sell it later at $100 - it costs me $40 overall. The knockoff is probably on Aliexpress for about $80-$100, but has no resale and can't even be listed on most platforms. So I save some money now, but spend more in the long run.

For me, I like non-lego brick companies for the original designs. Not for copies of lego sets. They still often rip off MOC's from people, but at least for those sets I can ditch the rubbish knockoff instructions and buy the proper ones right from the designer so they still get paid. The downside is you really have to find reviews before purchasing. So many of the designs just aren't buildable without using glue and it's so often clear that neither the designer, nor the manufacturer ever built the set themselves using actual bricks.

    Stock is back.

  • Seems to be still (back) in stock. I activated an Afterpay Pulse reward which was supposed to be $15 off a $150+ purchase but it actually gave $20 off, so the price for this came down to $229.99, less whatever cashback (if any) comes through.
