So I have about $40 in PAYG credit that is due to expire in about a month. Its a second mobile number that I mostly use to receive texts and rarely send them. It says on their critical information summary that the credit expires 365 days after adding credit or mobile/family plans, and I think I read somewhere that you can use the credit to purchase those plans (starts at $15/month) so if I use the credit to purchase those plans would my PAYG credit expiry be extended for a year, or does it have to be actual $$? Thanks

Your prepaid credit expires and any unused balance is forfeited at the end of your ‘credit validity period’
which is 365 days after:
• You activated your SIM or;
• You last added a PAYG recharge, a Mobile, Data or Family Plan or Super Pack.Hop on to chat just to confirm
Normally speaking its way cheaper to buy other sims, like maybe Optus $30 starter Kit on SALE, or Amaysim on SALE, or Vodafone $30/$40 kit on SALE.
They all pretty much have at least 6 month validity some have 1 year from the date of last recharge. i.e. if you plan on using the sim for RECEIVING SMS/CALLS only. may be for OTP's or something. But yeah Aldi starter kit used to be $5 not anymore, $15 is a little too much in my opinion. Because can get others normally around $10 easily, or sometimes, less at times. Like the recent Groupon 6 renewals of 28days, So that is 6*28 days + (assuming you cancel your auto renewal before 7th month, you can keep the number for another 6 months) That's almost like 11 months for ~$6.
I have that $5 sim I was going to use for 1st time ubers/door dash etc, so I Cant just add on another $5 next year?
No, recharge is $15 minimum
But if I could use the credit I already have in there (of which $35 was a bonus sim card with a phone purchase 2 or so yrs ago) then its 'free' for the next year as I wont have to pay anything extra? I dont want to run out of credit as such because I MAINLY (not only) receive calls/texts. The aldi starter kit is still $5 but minimum recharge is $15 btw. Could you give an example of optus/voda costing less than $10 a year (not counting the period you can still receive calls/texts after credit expiry)? I know amaysim has PAYG for $10, but for a $5 difference and giving up $40ish in credit..I wasnt sure if that was worth it in case I needed to use the number in the next year for sporadic texts.
But anyway, that actually wasnt the question. The original q was whether 'purchasing' a month pack with PAYG credit would extend PAYG credit's validity for another year. May have to try online chat (didnt know that existed for aldimobile?) Like nocure suggested if i can find it
The aldi starter kit is still $5 but minimum recharge is $15 btw
Weird when i go to store, its always marked at $15.
Optus $30 kit for $10 e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/641935, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/586364 Coles, Woolworths, often have this deal going on. you can use it to buy $30 Long expiry recharge—- Lasts you 180 days or something like that, and then after that expires, you have another 6 months i think after expiry and i believe its same with vodafone $30 kits.
A lot of private sellers sold optus kits for less than $10 ( that are way to close to expiry or have unused it, and got it for free with a phone)
So at retail level (not including private sellers) amaysim is still the cheapest at $10/year? (Plus the 6 months after credit expiry where you can still receive texts—although this isnt what I want, I want an active service I can still make occasional calls with)
Also this is the $5 starter kit https://www.aldimobile.com.au/collections/payg i still see them instore, next to the register
Confirmed yes I can use the credit to pay for a pack (via 'recharging' and using credit to pay as option) and yes will reset PAYG expiry for another 365 days.
via the aldi mobile app?
There's no option to choose PAYG credit?
'Warning! You do not have any payment information stored on your account. To add a pay method, click here'
Can you give me the steps to how you did it?
I havent done it yet, but tried to on the website. So click 'recharge' and choose '$15/30 day plan' then under that theres a sliding button to choose how much credit you want to use to pay it off. The 'warning! You dont have a paymenr method' thing will disappear once you slide the button all the way to the right. I havent actually clicked to use it yet, i might do a bit later as I still have a month to go before it actually expires
you slide the button all the way to the right
There's no slide button, is this on iOS?
@wekimekigugudan: No, android. I dont know, it was just there as an option above actual payment and when I said I would use $15 of the credit to pay for it (ie nothing else to pay) the payment section disappeared
So I tried recharging with credit. It worked. But payg credit still expires on the same date. Chatting (well, support ticket) to them about it. But since my payg credit expires later than the 30 day plan it may expire with the plan if payg expiry was less than 30days? But i was hoping it was an extra 365 days
Ok expiry has updated to one year from now. So thats good :)
how? emailed support?
So does the PAYG credit automatically extends to 365 days when you bought a $15/month plan?
I don't know what to do, my PAYG is expiring in 2 days. :(
@wekimekigugudan: I think it did. I did email support, it was a bit annoying because they seemed to answer a different question to what i had asked half the time. So i bought the $15 plan with my available credit and the payg expiry didnt update. I sent them a question and ended up quoting the critical information summary to them. The last reply asked me to check if payg expiry was sept 2022 which it was when i checked today (but was oct 2021 when checked yesterday) so im not sure if it was going to update to 2022 anyway and took time or whether it was my esupport ticket. Hope this helps. Maybe submit a ticket to them (via log in to the aldimobile site on browser)
@Rain Cloud: Now I'm getting Error fetching balance, can't even test to see if i can use the PAYG credit to purchase, tried to but saying no available payment.
@wekimekigugudan: Try contacting them by submitting an esupport ticket request. It says it takes 3 days but they reply pretty quickly, like a slower form of chat
ended up quoting the critical information summary to them.
what's the quote? I'm gonna email them that as well.

@Rain Cloud: Thanks!
I've submitted a ticket, hope they get back to me quickly, 2 days left to expiry.
@Rain Cloud: e-support has updated the PAYG credit to 365 days.
I would have bought another $15 PAYG credit for the year if i didn't read this helpful thread.
@wekimekigugudan: Awesome 🙂 did you find out if it was because of contacting support or whether it would have updated anyway?
@Rain Cloud: I checked the whole time no update until e-support resplied to my ticket.
@wekimekigugudan: Oh wow okay. Glad it worked out 🙂
if I use the credit to purchase those plans would my PAYG credit expiry be extended for a year,
