Budget Office Chair - Buro Metro VS Cascade

Hi everyone,

Recently landed myself a work from home office job and therefore needing to set up an office space. Currently on a budget and on the lookout for a decent chair. Two I've come across in my price range are the Buro Metro Task Chair and Cascade Mesh Chair (linked below). I know the Buro Metro is a pretty well liked budget chair and I've seen the cascade chair be heavily promoted on Ozbargain (especially last year). I'm a 167cm woman, and honestly have no idea what to look for. Just wondering if anyone has used one or both? Any reccomendations? Anything to look out for? I'm all ears really.

(Please don't reccomend any that are more expensive, I know they will be better but just not possible for me currently. And sadly herman office chairs go for atleast $500+ second hand)

Have tried buro but I ended up going ikea JÄRVFJÄLLET for $249 no regrets

    • whats the seat cusioning/padding like, esp for long periods of use?

Minimal I guess… it’s not a lounge chair by any means but has good support and relatively flexible in adjustment. I regularly do 10hr days with it.

  • Cascade looks to have an adjustable lumbar support and the pricing is cheaper than the Buro with a similar configuration though I do like that contoured seat cushion of the Buro. As Jim mentioned the IKEA Jarvf Jallet is a good option, however for me at 174cm the head rest is not adjustable and sits too high for me.

  • The Buro has thicker cushioning than the Cascade as well as steel base. I am the same height as you and the Buro is just the right size. That's a good price on winc.

  • Had the Buro Metro Task chair and it was okay but lacked the proper lumbar support and I found the hard plastic edges to be uncomfortable

If go for the Buro V2 24/7 ergonomic if you can or the Cascade.

Also, on the Task, the plastic frame leads to a lot of dust build up in the back

  • I'm 108kg and 6ft tall and love my Buro Metro. I bought 10 of them (for staff & parents) and they're all great. Only issue I've had is the gas has gone down on 2 of them (in like 5 years) - and the gas lift part is seemingly impossible to get out of the base. Support replaced both bases too!

  • I've had the cascade for a year now. It's all around a chair that would be unfomfortable for a lot of people. The back support is very stiff and hurts your back. The seat depth is way too deep and non adjustable so if your legs are on the shorter side your back will not be able to reach the back rest properly because you will be hunched forward.

Seat padding was also not great - at the end of each day I would get sciatic pain just from sitting on it.

I regret this purchase so much so that I forked out $700 to buy another chair :)

I've tried a lot of chairs and I can confirm the popular IKEA chairs (Markus etc) are miles more comfortable. I recommend going in store and try them out.
