Why on earth would anyone do that to their TV? Garish, ugly, and kitsch.

    • +3

I turn my lights off when I watch tv. Strip lighting around it makes it better/easier on my eyes instead of focusing on the bright tv.

        Or leave the light on.

        • +1

Nah the lighting location in my house is not good for how I like it. Also I like how it looks with the back lit up

        • +2

You might not want to light your whole room, but just the wall behind your tv. Also ceiling lights can reflect in the tv.

        • +2

There is a huge difference between the two, especially if you don’t have dimmable overhead lights.

      Look up ‘bias lighting tv’

I agree rgb is a bit much. I went with a straight daylight 6000k option.

      • Yeh light blue or white options for me only

      • Forgive my ignorance here, but does this deal have the blue or white options on it¿

        • +1

Don’t know this exact light strip / control but they’re RGB and you should be able to just select through the modes to choose a solid colour and then change colour at will

          • @Lolitsjoel: Ok cheers for that.

            • +1

@FredAstair: I do not recommend using an RGB light strip to recreate white light. Unless you have a really high end light strip, you can't accurately recreate white and it will look a bit off.

Buy an strip with white LED's instead of this.

      Google ambient lighting.

Simplest form is just a glow around your tv on the wall behind.

Just a nice look and can also help ease your eyes without having the ceiling light on.

    • +1

Read about bias lighting, there are benefits to it.
I have a white LED light strip, it really helps watching TV at night without overhead lights.

Look up Hyperion raspberry pi. Ambient tv lighting looks amazing.

  • Any deals on longer lengths?

  • 4 x 0.5m led strips … not ideal imo.

    • +1

Yeah this thing barely covers a 27" monitor.

  • Instantly upgrading your TV to a gaming monitor.

(who else came in just for the comments?)

  • I've got a DIY version on my monitor with 134 WS2812 LEDs and running Prismatik capturing directly from the GPU. About $30 total setup costs including an Arduino.

<10ms response time and direct lighting for each individual LED according to its position behind the monitor. Absolutely fantastic for gaming and movies, and I'll add it to every screen I own from now on
