The Good Guys Sneaky T&Cs to avoid Honoring Bonus Store Credit

I got myself a $5xx appliance to take advantage of $40 Store Credit with $240-$359.99 Spend, $60 Store Credit with $360+ Spend but I've been disqualified because the T&Cs requires me to remain opt-in to their marketing email; it is mentioned in 2nd Page along with other fine prints.

I probably unsubscribed their marketing email along with other spams when I was clearing out the inbox.

I admit it is my fault not reading the entire T&Cs but I find the tatic unscrupulous and who knows what they are willing to do with more serious issue like Warranty and Repair.

First time buying and probably last time dealing with the Good Guys;

PS: JB Hi Fi too as they are the same company and likely share the same culture.

Store credit expires in 7 days. Wow…are they that desperate for that marginal sale. I agree that the T&C seems harsh but it is your responsibility to read the fine print. However for warranty issues, it is much harder for them to wriggle their way out due to ACL protection.

it is your responsibility to read the fine print.

No it's not. Onerous conditions have to be as bold as the offer in any advertisement. OP could complain the the ACCC. And if the ACCC could be bothered, the Good Guys would earn themselves a five to six figure fine.

But there are many, many, many more pressing issues at the moment, so please don't hold your breath.

Seems pretty clearly labelled in the T&C's (linked via the deal), not exactly sneaky. Have you tried contacting their customer service? They are usually pretty good with moving goal posts (got a bonus credit honored after the expiry date thanks to their customer support team). Argue that you forwarded the email to a friend who then clicked the unsubscribe link without your consent or something…

  • Are you sure? I don't get their marketing email but still got my credit from that deal, they SMSed me the code..

And it's not sneaky when clearly stated in the T&Cs…

I don't know for sure if I received TGG marketing or not - I just remembered clearing out Inbox. When I enquired about the bonus via Online messaging, TGG replied I'm not opted in and disqualified.

I don't dispute it is not T&Cs. I am saying it is not clearly stated; Clearly Stated would mean it would be mentioned in Step-1 To be eligible to receive

Being first time dealing with TGG, it put very bad taste in the mouth.

I don't intend to follow up but I do intend to rant Online/Offline to get back $60-worth of grieve that have caused me. Hopefully, Google will pickup the rants and cause further stain to their reputation.

      • I would try another avenue of contact other than online messaging - I've found their phone support to be good (call wait times are crap, but their callback system does work).. just tell them the TGG marketing may have got stuck in spam filter or similar.

Note that the $60 credit doesn't work for digital items such as xbox live cards or office 365 - i found that out the hard way :(

  • Myer also gets up to this sort of stuff, so beware of any store credit promotions at Myer too!

  • Store Credit honoured by Promo team. I was waiting for my Store Credit to come through, I called customer service who said I didnt tick the marketing box but they transferred my inquiry to the Promo department and they honoured it.
