Desktop Wi-Fi PCIe Adapter / USB Dongle Recommendations

Hi OZBers.

I'm fairly clueless when it comes to computer tech, and I had a tech question which is probably easily answered by many of you.

Just pulled an old desktop computer (2015 or so) from out of the cupboard for my young son to use.
The computer works fine - it is from my old office. It was connected via LAN there.
I just realised it does not have a wireless adaptor / wireless capabilities, and I wish to connect it to my home wifi.

Do I need a wireless adaptor or wifi dongle? Or are they the same thing?
