That's pretty hard to answer, but yes, I only buy NB for shoes and always 2d (wide).
I assume you mean 2E?
Personally I have purchased standard (D) and 2E from new balance and have not noticed a difference.
If you feel you shoes are a bit loose on standard I would not go to 2E.
If you feel they are snug then probably you won't notice a difference going to 2E
If they are tight on the sides then the extra-width is probably what you need.
The other thing to also note is that as you go up a size the shoes become wider. So if you purchase a shoe one shoe size up and also go for extra width it might feel too loose.

I am wearing one pair at the moment. EXTREMELY average quality. There are holes on where my biggest toe and there are holes on where my smallest toe. Anything scratches the surface of the shoes will end up with a hole. The shoes are super light, as light as sketcher if not lighter. Unlike many others, I have a wide feet, so sketcher is out of the question, always New Balance 2d. Did I order a pair, sure did, ordered 3 pairs. I still like them.
To be fair there is a thumb-hole on my 1 year old Ultraboost too. :)
The quality of my puma shoes for 10 bucks from the other day is better than these for more than 3 times the price.
I bought two pairs of Puma about 2 weeks ago @ 40% off. I've worn one pair outside, probably only about 4 times, and part of the tread on the sole has almost worn completely smooth…
If they aren't foam soles, then return them. The best models are the plastic "90's" style with a hard rubber or plastic sole. Had Puma axis and they lasted two years with 30km+ a week running.
Could not vouch for the quality on this one, last ones were torn near toes in 3 months. Moderate use. Again YMMV
