Glenmorangie 1 Litre 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky $65 1st Choice Liquor Many States

260

A good deal on a good single malt Scotch Whisky.

It's available in Vic, NSW, Qld and possibly all states. (I couldn't be bothered looking at all the pdf's for every individual state).

It's advertised at the very bottom of the catalogue (which was also in the Herald Sun on ~Thursday).

Valid until the 11th of March, this is a very decent Scotch, made by the official Scotch suppliers to the Scottish Parliament.

Enjoy.

  • Not bad, Grey Goose vodka is pretty cheap if you're into that kind of stuff.

EDIT: DM already beat the price by 5cents

20% off single beers in 6's!

    • Dan beat the price on Glenmorangie? Got a link? Can't find 1L advertised on their website.

      • no, was referring to grey goose

      • Dan Murphy's only have the 700ml bottle for $62.95: http://danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_1085/glenmorangie-the-or…. So for $2.05 extra you get 300ml more, bargain!

        • I'm only seeing the 700 mL bottle for $69.99. Might be cheaper at your location. Where are you located?

        • Oh, ACT. Ever bigger bargain for you then :)

Dont know about you guys, but me and a few friends tried this one out… And geez it's terrible! Smooth initially then a bad aftertaste

    • +4

it isn't meant to be used as a mixer…..

  • Great scotch but I've never seen the 1 Litre bottle at DM's even the website doesn't list it, are we sure it's not 700ml?

OK found it on the 1st Choice flyer - will get a bottle - cheers

  • Good price for a 1litre if you like the taste

After trying Ardbeg… I can't have anything else. It tastes AWESOME.

    • +2

Glenmorangie is a decent drop, and I think they own Ardberg. Big fan of the peaty Islay malts…. Laphroaig, Ardbeg, and Lagavulin… or the lighter Bowmore and Bruichladdich…

      • I recommend you try Kilchoman. Newest (and probably smallest) Islay distillery so the bottlings released so far are quite young, but still show a lot of character… non=chill-filtered, no added caramel.

  • Off topic:
If you like Single Malt Scotch, two to try is Talisker and Highland Park…..this is coming from a Scotsman! If you like it quiet light yet peaty try Oban. If you can get your hands on a Glenmore, you're in for a treat.

    • Experiencing the different flavours is what single malts are all about, but I really didn't care for Glenmorangie. Feble limp-wristed whisky it is - I'm definitely more of a West Coast peaty smoky kind of guy.
Was glad to see the end of my 700mL bottle… freed up some space in the whisky cupboard for something nicer. A litre would just take that much longer to finish.

Feeble and limp wristed… You're so cool,..
But in the spirit of trying to be helpful, Nick's in Melbourne have laphroaig quarter cask for 79… Dans have it for 99 and I got a price match on Friday.. Personally i think it's an amazing price and probably deserves a post unto itself..

"Feeble and limp wristed… You're so cool,.."

          WTF?

Let me rephrase. Glenmorangie is light and floral on the palate, with a hint of spice and honey sweetness. It's a very subtle flavoured whisky.

There's a pervasive suggestion in this, and all other recent scotch threads on here, that "single malt" equates to big peaty flavours. That is quite untrue, and Glenmorangie is a case in point. If somebody buys Glenmorangie expecting something similar to the Talisker they tried once, they're in for a surprise.

If you're into subtle flavours - go nuts, this really is a good price. But it's not for everybody. Especially not people who like big tastes.

      • It is a very lightly flavoured scotch, but not everyone enjoys a very smoky/peaty scotch. Are you a smoker? Personally I can't drink smoky scotches. I was given a bottle of Bowmore for Christmas and regifted it.

        • I must admit I have a soft spot for Isley malts… The reason I commented was b/c I found the comment re "limp wristed " to be offensive and condescending ( though it has since been clarified )
          And I am certainly not a smoker…
I "try"to aspire to being able to appreciate the uniqueness and subtleties of each single malt… Though we all still have our favorites…

        • Sorry, I was responding to barefoot. I must have hit the wrong button :(

Scotch preference is a wide and varied thing, but it's my belief that here isn't the place to be discussing it. I posted the deal for those who do like Glenmorangie, not for those that don't like it to tell us all about their likes and dislikes.

Once again, this isn't directed at you, rusko.

        • (in response to TonyP, because we've exceeded the thread-depth limit of the board)

And in turn, my comment was purely in response to bignelly above, saying:
"If you like Single Malt Scotch, two to try is Talisker and Highland Park"

On a thread about Glenmorangie, that's quite a leap.

If you like big peaty single malt scotch, those two are a good start.
If you like light spicy single malt scotch, Glenmorangie would be a much better start.

As I said in my second post… that insinuation that "single malt" equates to "big peaty taste". It's not true.

To my taste, highland and Speyside whiskies are somewhat bland and, as I said, feeble. They lack the robustness I like in a Campbelltown or Islay malt. Glenmorangie is a highland malt.

Agreed, though, that this isn't the place to discuss the intricacies of whisky tasting and preferences.

  • I went to first choice and the price was $70 and it was not on special - that would make the saving $5

    • +1

That is the 700 mL bottle! Check the catalogue - this is for 1 Litre.

  • Awesome price, just went to the Bentley store in WA and picked up 2 bottles, they had the 700ml bottle next to it for $70! There was only 1 left there, even the dude at the checkout was amazed.

    • None left at the Ashburton VIC store, so I grabbed 2 from the Chadstone store, leaving only 1.

  • Good deal. Grabbed a few bottles for myself and a mate from Belconnen in Canberra. Still two left.

Definitely falls into the lighter style of Scotch in flavour whereas I tend to prefer peaty styles but having variety is a good thing!

  • Just picked up 2 from the port Melbourne shop on bay st… The still had 5 or 6 left.
And they had a 15 y/o springbank for $63 that I was so close to buying…
    Thanks OP!!

  • There's plenty left at the Moonee Ponds 1st choice. I picked up a bottle for myself earlier. Thanks OP. It's a lovely whisky, the taste is quite similar to Bushmills 10 IMO.

  • As has been mentioned above this is a very smooth and light scotch. This is one of my favourites and is perfect for anyone looking to get into single malts. Smoky scotches can take some getting used to so start with this and work up to a more peaty drop.

    • why do highland malts always get painted as a means to an end rather than an end unto themselves??
