Where Can I Buy Wagyu in Tasmania

Unlike major cities like SYD and MEL, it's very difficult to buy wagyu in Tasmania.
I've been to countless local butchers, the 'wagyu' they sell are in very low quality (low to no marbling whatsoever) or not fresh.
After hours of research online, I finally found ONE company that offers nation-wide delivery - https://organicmeatonline.com.au/collections/wagyu but the selection is really limited.

Does anyone know where I can source those oily fatty goodness???

  • Coles?

    • which one????
I've seen the Sandy Bay Woolies sells it, but I'm hoping to look for something with more marbling…At least A4 level

      • Ah, not sure, I’ve just seen ‘wagyu’ in Coles aisles in melb.. thought maybe it’s a nation wide product/company.. happy hunting

        • we are not that lucky..

Sounds like a business opportunity for OP.

    • hmmmm where should I source them…..unlike major cities like SYD and MEL….lol

      • Google 'wholesale wagyu supplier' and go from there. Otherwise start your own farm.

  • After hours of research online

What are you talking about, googled ( 10secs later ) and your have your own farm in Tassie https://www.robbinsislandwagyu.com.au/

    • They only do wholesale, the retailer are the butchers I mentioned above, selling low quality and meat that is not fresh. Dull dark red steak bathing in its own blood with subpar marbling, imo Robbins island is overrated.

Yeah. Their wagyu is amazing and decently priced.

  • I used to be a butcher and I asked the same question here in Perth. I had a friend who explained to me that the Australian market was not really into very fatty marbled beef, and so a lot of breeders have modified the Australian "wagyu" to not be as marbled.

    Which is a damn shame.

    • yea…I can see how the need for 'lean meat' has a play on this…shame

    • Thanks mate, I'm aware of that and I've tried organic meat online.
their wagyu is ok, but the choice is limited (only 3 cuts available) and the marbling not really that great.
but given that is the only option, I'd still order from them

  • Have you tried a place called "Tasmania Prime meats" in Goodwood- they seem to have everything.
