form to claim the money back (?)

    • Claiming your money back and being an unsecured creditor are pretty distinct from each other.

Depending on the debts of the company and the ability of the receivers to sell the business as an ongoing concern or to close the business and realise assets, you may get cents in the dollar up to your full amount.

But usually in this kind of situation, if you got 10-20% back you would be doing well.

  • The customer will have an unsecured claim for the value of the card.

You will not see your money again, regardless of whether you are the holder of the gift certificate or the original purchaser.

  • +4

Yet another example why Gift Vouchers are a crock…
They're inferior to cash in every possible way anyway, this just makes them even worse.

    • You are right. The problem is, a gift certificate is the most socially acceptable way to give cash. The number of times I've been burnt on gift certificates - just give me the money!! ಠ_ಠ

      • I looked at gift cards yesterday and am glad I decided to just give cash!

  • I have a question… Extended warranties, I signed up for an extended warranty on a TV a couple of months back on a 40" Toshiba LCD. It came with a standard 2 year warranty and I paid for an extra 4 years of cover. If this warranty cannot be honoured, should I be contacting WoW for money back (if it's an option) or will it be honoured by a different company? Here's hoping it doesn't break down in the next 6 years!!
