That’s pretty easy to steal. Only reason why I am not buying it and no free replacement

Energy efficiency and very easy to install. Easy to maintain too.

Company won't be able to sell access to audio or footage to police, private investigators, strangers, insurance, etc. You can never trust internet enabled doorbells. Are you comfortable with recordings of inside? Such as how often you have sex. How much screaming/arguments there are. And more. Google will give ads of self help, condoms, etc. The motive is there and people pay hundred+ for this!

        • I can't believe you're not a spam bot??

    Suggested Google Nest Doorbell

I will start with the Google’s newest Nest Doorbell

    • I have one to replace the Kogan video doorbell I had which was terrible.

Its brilliant, at least if you have multiple hubs etc in the house. Love the thing.

    Eufy

    Suggested Nest Doorbell Battery

    got the new nest.
Despite being annoyed by the '3 hours' storage being a 3 hour time window, not 3 hours of clips, its so far pretty good

Decent image quality, motion detection/notifications seems better than my old ring, detection of person v person w/package etc

  • Eufy has been very good and no extra plans required.

  • Depends if it is retrofitted to an existing house or it is for a brand new house build.
Brand new house, I would not go with consumer grade equipment.

I have installed an intercom/doorbell at our new house and integrated a door release (electric strike).
Comes with an app also. More options to integrate with security systems etc….

Otherwise, I don't mind the ring range.

    • Which one are you using for door strike and intercom?

I use the Akuvox R20K. There are others (bigger) than can to Face recognition, QR code etc…or even 4G if you don’t have data at the door.

The electric strike is just Lockwood ES200

Yeah door bells are really hard to pick.

There subscription models are so ridiculous that we have to pay them twice once at buying initially then constantly Every month.

Absolutely hate this unlimited dipping model.

And also hate someone else other than owner having access to photage for free whether that be police or company itself.

I just haven't gone on board for just these two main reasons, apart from it already being so expensive at initially too.

Same. I just wish more of these companies supported HomeKit Secure Video So I can take advantage of iCloud storage to save videos.

    • Eufy requires no subscription. All videos are stored in the local homebase.

  • I think eufy supports homekit secure videos. Atleast my Indoor 2k pan n tilt has that option. Best part is no subscription. Human Detection is quite decent.

  • Suggested Ubiquiti doorbell

I have Ubiquiti networking gear and their G4 doorbell is now available in Australia. Interested in knowing if anyone else has tried their doorbell.

  • I went through this 2 years ago, and found that none of them let you store the recordings yourself, or are low quality and unreliable. My solution was to buy the cheapest and upgrade later, so I got the original Ring, which failed, so returned it and got the replacement which is the Ring 2020 model for $100, plus the $4/month storage subscription. They sell for $119 at Bunnings right now.

Also keep in mind that you may find you want to angle the the doorbell to get a better view, so getting a popular brand means it's easier to find the mounts/wedges.
