The discounted phones only come with a plan, which was never mentioned. Wasted plenty of people's time.

Most people would be upset as they were told this was to go live at 12:01.
Telstra didn't bother testing whether this worked prior. They could see it would be extremely popular from the number of positive votes on OzBargain.
Not exactly surprised. Customer service is usually why people leave …. along with incorrect billing; as a parting gesture they make it difficult to leave.
My last experience with Telstra was trying to get through all of their automated website (results in almost every end point being a bot).
Followed by multiple visits (more than 5 for the same issue) to their store because data was "mismatched or incorrect", preventing me from porting to Boost.
Even when being told they had made multiple attempts, they kept retrying only for it to error 24 hours later (no attempt made to figure out why it kept failing, just resubmit in the hope it magically would be processed). Never a phone call when they said they would inform me.
You go with Telstra for the introductory deals (JB Hifi gift cards, discounted phones) and always leave disappointed (and with great difficulty).

I don't understand why you have to take the "Day" part literally. I mean, it's 1:24am now and I'm still having issues ordering it. If it started at 8am in the morning with this type of technical issues, I would probably not be as annoyed at your company as I am right now. I'm going to go to sleep annoyed. I'm going to wake up tomorrow tired and work tired. This 12am thing has made a lot of people go to sleep annoyed. I know it's not your fault but I'm just really not looking forward working all day tomorrow after staying up this late. And if these technical issues continue and I can't actually purchase it, I'd have stayed up late for no reason.

Yep. Just purchased on backorder. Shows full price on product page but add to cart then next shows the discounted price. What odds the useless bastards will cancel the order cos"out of stock"?

My outright order just went through successfully
Just select the phone you want with the option for outright and skip past all the plan selection and there will be an option after a little summary to select "next". It will then take you to the cart to purchase just the phone. I had to sign in with my Telstra account and verify my drivers licence though.
@chris6507: yeah, i got to this stage after making an account and adding drivers license etc. it gets to the checkout step 1, click next, says its checking my details then fails
@KutchAu: That's a bummer. Can't really help too much if that's happening. Mine went straight through.
All I can think is that maybe you do have to have a Telstra plan to purchase outright. I didn't purchase a plan, but my wife already has a plan. Could be the difference.

adding payment option didn't work when checking out, i had to add card in account settings then go through checkout and select the pre added card.;
back online, ordered one successfully. Discount is applied after adding to cart.
Managed to get it without buying any plans. It's on backorder. Got email confirmation and money taken out of my card

Yes Telstra ID is required from the look of it. I bought an $10 sim from Coles today ($2 was out of stock) just to get a Telstra ID and it worked
What.. I bought a $2 sim today from woolies. Activated and linked it to my Telstra ID which i created today. It didn't work for me
@XxDonniexX: Maybe an actual plan was needed? $10 sim actually gives you $10 to be used for 7 days which I assigned to my SIM. $2 won't give you any plan

Same issue here. Was a past customer but don’t have any existing accounts.

P.s. i had to use licence of the Telstra account holder, when I tired mine it didn't work.
