    • what store and how

    • please include a receipt when you get it, it will be really appreciated

    • JB Sunshine VIC straight out said no to me. Please post receipt.

      • I guess your communicating with JB over the phone, Melbourne here too restricted by lock down also

    • +3

      In response to all above:

      Store: VIC, 3064.

      Picked up just now @ 5:10pm. 2 x 256GB. $672 each.

      https://imgur.com/a/p03SQci

      • Good job

      • How when were in lock down may I ask

        • Over the phone then click & collect I take it?

          • @Bafranz: Awesome thanks I guess to late now to order

Edit: did you ring your store or a general Jbhifi number?

          • @Bafranz: The general sales team are saying no over the phone so not sure how you can click and collect at that price.

      • Yupz called Jbhifi Watergardens store Vic 3038

Not that they said no, just couldn't price match as the S21 wasn't in stock,..

otherwise they would have priced match no worries

        Anyway stores close @ 6pm

I'll just order another S21 with Telstra online and have to wait for delivery

      • How did you get that price to show on the website? The sales team from their general line straight up refuses to price match..

      • great you got it,

All JBs and HNorman or good guys dont price match this deal.

I tried calling Melton JB Hifi store and argued to forget the telstra deal and do a price match with JB Hifi receipt (the one you shared).

Manager at Melton store agreed but she says its not full receipt.

Do you have a reciept after you pick it up, that says the store name and date time etc on it.

        appreciate your help.

        regards

        • if you have the full receipt, and can share it will be really helpful for a lot of us.

          thanks and advance

  • If I buy in store is it likely they will have stock, or will it still be a delivery?

  • +5

It keeps saying error when I input my ID.
I have tried drivers license and passport.

Any ideas? How did you get through this screen?

Why do you even need ID to buy a product outright?!

    • +2

yah same issue here. always fails when clicking next after entering ID.
      Support chat was no help

      • +1

same for me customer support said some technical issue is going on and unable to place order now.

    • having all the same issues.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10988482/redir

might be worth trying to pricematch like this guy

      • +1

I couldn't get it to work with a new ID that I created.

I used my parents ID/ existing ID and it worked straight away.

I would suggest going down to coles and getting a $2 sim, and registering it and see if you can get it to work like that.

        Good luck.

  • I'm currently using Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro, is it worth getting a S21 considering this price, and I could sell the Xiaomi?

  • +2

    Order one on backorder

Ex telstra user > logged in old account > changed address > bought with no plan selected > verified drivers > order went through

Was on the fence as my note 9 still going pretty damn good aside from battery drop.

But looking at the activity on this deal it must be worth taking the plunge.

  • +1

After numerous failed attempts with Telstra, I called Optus and got them to price match, however I did also sign up for a plan (intentionally, for work purposes). Unsure on their stance without one.

Happy to upgrade from my current 3 year old S9 which is on its last legs

  • +2

Strange that people are negging this deal but using it to price match with other retailers / service providers..lol

    • +2

Pretty terrible deal when it's inaccessible..lol

      • I would assume the site was down which is bound to happen with such a steal deal. I did manage to book it without attaching to any plan. Just need to have a Telstra account. Having said that, the deal still got you the phone @50% off (even if its a different seller and not Telstra). I would be happy with such deals across different products as long as I get the product at same price from any seller ;-)

        • This thread specifically refers to Telstra's offer, which many others couldn't obtain, even with a Telstra account. I eventually signed up with Optus but I did not get the same product for the same price as I am locked to a SIM plan and if I cancel that at any point, I must pay out the device in full excluding any price match credits.

          • @heytherehoney: ohh that's bad. I thought Optus was able to price match for an outright purchase.

  • Can we choose the lowest upfront plan and then cancel the plan within a month? With a upfront plan I am able to proceed to payment screen

    • +1

Hey man, I just bought a 2 dollar pre-paid sim from the store, activated it with a new email, and used that account to buy the phone and it worked first time. I think you can do that, but it would be cheaper just going out and getting a SIM. Best of luck!

  • +7

I made an account on this site just to comment this. IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES BUYING IT OUTRIGHT, THIS MAY HELP. I have been stuffing around with this deal on and off since like 1AM this morning. I tried basically everything trying to access this deal, the thing that ended up working for me, since I was a new user to telstra, was getting a $2 pre-paid sim card from the store, activating it with a new non-existing email, and once that was activated buying the phone outright on that account. Good luck guys, and i hope for all the people having issues buying it outright, this might help you.

    • Can you buy the sim online?

      • +2

You can buy a sim online, but idk how it works. If you can I would suggest getting one from the shops becuase that worked for me, but if not you can try the online sim. Good luck!

    • +9

I second this, was about to write the same thing. I was on at midnight and only just managed to make the purchase now. That's 17 hours of trying (ok take off an hour for lunch, 16 hours of trying). No joke, today I went to two Telstra stores, spent hours on the phone to several different Telstra reps, spent a long time speaking to team members in the online chat and also countless hours online trying to navigate the website using every method under the sun. I even tried price matching with other vendors. I was determined to get this deal. The ONLY thing that works if you're not already a Telstra customer with a Telstra ID is to buy a pre-paid SIM card, activate it and then use details that you have not attempted to use before. There is also a further catch to this, after activation, don't try and buy it online on a PC because you will get the "Something went wrong" message. You need to download the My Telstra app and then make the purchase from your phone with your new Telstra Pre-Paid activated SIM inserted. Only then, will it work!

I've literally lost a whole day over this cr@p. I never liked Telstra, but now I loathe them. I would never ever become a Telstra customer. Spoke to at least 8 diff Telstra reps today either on the phone, in the chat or in person and I can tell you that not one of them was significantly helpful. Absolute joke of a company. In the end I had to figure it out myself after hours of trial and error. All just to buy a phone outright……

      • +1

Too true mate, I am currently an optus plan holder, and genuinely considered moving over to telstra because the coverage for optus is shitty in my area. But this has really pissed me off, and I probably will be avoiding telstra from here on out, lol. I was lucky enough for it to actually work on my PC first time, terrible to see how it worked out for you.

      • Do you still need to do the ID verification thing?

      • +2

Bro is it even worth it after going through that day of (profanity)..? Sometimes I wonder what the point of a bargain is if the effort it took was astronomical.

      • @PleasureMe thanks for the $2 sim tip. Similar situation, been trying every few hours since 5.30am this morning… was far too good a deal to give up without a fight!
I went and bought a SIM and did the activation on the phone (with a new email address).
The S21 purchase I did in an incognito tab on the computer.

I think my issue was around the drivers licence ID attached to an old deactivated account.
It needed a new service activation to 'flush' that old record and allow my drivers licence to be used to verify ID again.

Will be spewing if there is now no stock and the order gets cancelled :|

      • +1

YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks mate just popped down to woolies after seeing this and worked first try cheers!

      • +1

Thank you thank you! Jumped through the same hoops last night and today to no avail. Picked up the $2 sim card and it went through with no issues. It shouldn't have been this hard honestly!

  • +4

Absolute sham. Just wasted all my time making a Telstra account and then not able to purchase the phone outright. After I call Telstra for assistance he informs me that I have to attach a Telstra plan (The cheapest is $55 a month). I then called a brick and mortar store and they said the same thing. Why advertise a phone for an outright price if you can't buy it outright?

    • Still trying???

      • I am, not working

        • See post by pleasureme. Buy $2 sim

    • @dunqz
No one is forcing you to buy outright, it's just an option like the 12 or 24 months, so you can choose either and add a plan.

      • Even if I tried to buy it on the 12 or 24 month plan I still needed to get a mobile service plan and it couldn't be a prepaid sim either is what I was being told by Telstra support. I didn't want a service plan, I just wanted the phone.

        • Agree you want the phone outright, but it clearly says you need to add a plan with it, so why do people want to override things when it clearly states something.

          • @Yoo05: If you go back to the first page the OP (who is associated with Telstra) stated that the phone can be purchased outright. I'm not trying to override anything m8.

    • Build hype and then sell an extremely overpriced plan. Way cheaper to just get a sim on a plan from a Telstra MVNO (Aldi mobile etc) - sure it's not the full Telstra network but you're barely going to notice any difference unless you're trawling remote parts of the country.

  • +1

Wanted to order the S21 5G for my mum, but the personal store wouldn't let me complete the outright purchase (not sure if it's because I don't have any personal services) and the business store was only showing 12 or 24mth repayment options.

Managed to get it for $600 through the Telstra Plus store with 8000 points.

  • +2

Grabbed a s21 256 outright from the website. Didnt do anything special but did log into id from a prepaid account. Enjoy the retirement lg g3..

    • +1

Respect for that G3 Champion of a phone! In the same period, I wore down a G4, a V20 and a OnePlus 6.
Until this very moment I used to think my phones lasted a long time..

  • +1

Now to look at reviews to see if i made a mistake. #Ozb life+lockdown

  • anyone purchased after 8am outright (without plan) have their phones dispatched yet?

    • No. Received email at 8.15.

      • best of luck to us both

      • got my dispatch sms just then

        • Same

    • Got my dispatch SMS x2
      With no attached plan. Yay!

  • Looking to purchase this for a friend since I already have a verified Telstra account.

Anyone know if I can change the name and delivery address to friend's details and have them on the invoice for warranty purposes?

    • I recall being able to edit my name and address. give that a shot, its all before you pay

      • Thanks for the reply.

The name field is locked out so I cannot change it at all.

There's also this note so doesn't look like I can order this to send to a friend:

        Your ID is required
You’ll need to be there in person to receive your order and present this ID document if required.

        • I ordered on my parents account. I used my own credit card to pay for it.
The phone will be delivered to them. I think warranty issue is a very remote, and something you could overcome if that situation eventuates.

  • +1

I am an international here so don't have Australian passport or license. I don't think I am able to purchase it?

    • call one of the other competitors to price match imo. People referenced JB Hifi and Optus

      • Tried both JB and Optus. Both declined saying they can't price match outright. Optus needs a plan associated with it while JB just declined it.

  • -8

False advertising. This isn't outright, it won't go through unless you add a plan for the first month then cancel it.

    • +1

Get a $2 sim from coles/woolies. Create new account and try again.

  • +1

I’m not a Telstra customer. Don’t have any prepaid or post paid accounts. However managed to sign up for a Telstra ID and successfully verified my ID with my drivers license. Added the s21 outright without a plan, checked out and successfully purchased it.

    All up - $672

    • +1

      good stuff! its russian roulette

    • +1

      I call bullshit on this.

      • You can call bullshit. But i managed to get one :)

Nah not on Boost. Numbers with Optus.

I have a feeling it was a glitch.

        • +1

I have a feeling it was a glitch.

          Sound like typical Telstra

    • are you on boost?

  • +1

Just logged into my Telstra Plus’s app, clicked on the link for Telstra Day, added S21 , 128Gb, chose outright and went through verification and checkout. Credit card entered and confirmed. Seems to work if you have an old Telstra Account and no plan.

Don’t really need a new phone, but all the posts convinced me to try!! Now what to do with the phone.

    • -1

1/ Take snapshots with it, brag by sending pics to friends over social media that you own a new Samsung Galaxy S21

2/ Then profit by selling it on eBay for over a $1000

3/ Profit the money for the next Ozbargain deal

  • +4

guys can confirm that the $2 sim trick mentioned above by a few finally worked for me and i was able to order my s21ultra! thanks guys

    • This requires to drive to store and buy one, my nearest Woolworths is a 20 minute drive, not (profanity).

      • +2

I got mine at a servo.

      • +4

I bought 2 SIMS in case this ID verification sh1tst0rm messed up, so I have a spare if you want to try with it.
I think you can activate a new service via the web with the serial # at https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/activate#activate-n…

PM me if you want the spare SIM serial number. You don't need to put any recharge value on it to activate and get a new TelstraID

        • -1

          what a bloke

        • SIM redeemed

  • Any deal on the S21+?

  • When buying through the Telstra Plus store, it's not asking me to choose a plan. Will this be added on my current plan, or is it a loophole to buy it outright without a plan?

    • If you want to call it a loophole maybe it is either way you bought it outright without going on a plan, important,. as long your happy with that 👍😁

Edit: order will show up in your account that's all

Not sure if we earn Telstra reward points anyone know?

  • +1

Couldn't purchase the outright handset as I wasn't an existing Telstra account holder, so tried a few price matches.

Was surprised that Harvey Norman wouldn't price match the outright price deals (saying you had to sign up to a plan) but Optus Shop did!

Telstra wording was something like "pay over 24 months/36 months/outright when adding a plan" or "existing Telstra account holders can buy outright"

So I pitched it to Optus will they look after their account holders like Telstra are, and walked out with the S21 5G 128GB for $624

  • +2

After stuffing around with the "Something went wrong" message for hours, manage to score two S21 for my wife and I by activating a $2 sim, create a new Telstra ID, login to mytelstra and purchase the phones.

  • Does anyone know who provides the warranty for these devices and for how long?
Do you need to provide the original purchase receipt?

  • In the end a mate at work, who is a Telstra customer, was kind enough to order one for me.

Now on the the hunt for a decent case and charger…
