Whether to Get Canon EOS M50 or M50 Mark II

The M50 Mark II is apparently the same as Mark I, just with firmware update mainly for video and eye tracking. I dont have any need for that.

At the moment, the M50 can be bought for $750, and it was as low as $689 on amazon very briefly. Whereas the M50 Mark II lowest price is $880 on amazon.

As much as I don't want to buy a old version of a camera, released in early 2018, logically I cant see a reason why I would pay $130 more for a few features that I wouldn't notice at all.

In the US, the price difference on bhphotovideo is only $50 USD or $68.5 AUD.

Can someone point me to the right one?

If you don't mind spending $130 more (15% more) get the new one. Newer model, probably better resale, maybe longer firmware support?
If you do then get the old one, you won't notice the difference anyway.

I would be tossing up between the M6 Mark II…

    • Yeah thats what im thinking. The resale difference is main thing making me consider the new one.

As for the M6 Mk II, I decided its not as much bang for buck as the M50 (for a beginner like me). I was looking at M6 Mk II bodies on grey market websites, and the cheapest was 1099 + 20 shipping for body only.

These cameras certainly look good feature wise but the lens selection is just so poor. Can't they put out some cheap primes in 28, 35, 50 equiv.

    • Yes I did hear the release of lenses has been sparse. Baffling…

The other option is to get a lens adapter so their other mount lenses can be used but it costs over $120 dollars

Put your money into a lens, not the body.. unless this is for professional purposes

    • Seems its a lot better to save money on the body here then get better lenses

Yup, and you can always keep the lenses and get a better body down the track..

    *Cough…
    Nikon…

Get good glass, then build up your collection. Make sure the glass is FX, then as you get better at shooting, you can use the glass as intended and designed with a full frame body!

    *cough… Nikon… *cough…

    • I'll look into it, probably something for me further down the road if you know what I mean
