So the company I work for decided that instead of letting us expensify our whole phone bill each month, we have to deduct the handset repayment portion from now on.
I'm a bit raw about it because had I known they were going to change the goalposts half way into the contract, I wouldn't have gone with the particular plan that I'm on.
Furthermore, Optus doesn't have coverage at all at McNeilly Park in Marrickville where I take my kids to play and go there by myself to do exercise. So frustrating, its literally smack bang in the middle of Sydney. No excuses for Optus to have such a bad black spot right there.
So I'm looking to change to another carrier, but they all seen to have the same handset repayment these days. I.e. in the old days, if you were on a higher plan, the cost of the handset was reduced. Is this not the case anymore these days?
Does Any Telco in Oz Subsidize iPhone Handset Anymore?

expensify?
Imagine saying that in a meeting with your company accountants to discuss the change 🤦
"We need to exemplify and intenzify by synergizing the expenzify. Incentivize the ROI's and realize that without you guyz, there is no big picture prize!" *points to random pie charts and bar graphs*
"Shut up and take this promotion…"
Yeah, pretty much the only option is the JB/Good Guys type offers.
If you are half way thru your contract, how does switching benefit you. You will still have to pay out the contract.
I understand that you want the phone part loaded rather than the handset, but why not wait until the existing contract is paid out. At least you are saving the phone plan part which the company pays. I doubt if they will pay both phone plans.
Most telcos do not do the same type of plans any more. They will let you sign up and pay of a phone like a interest type free type thing. But you are not locked the carriers plans for the life of that "Loan" you can leave at any time without any early termination fees, you just have to pay the remaining handset balance off.
No, they all do no lock in plans with interest free handset repayments now, which is meant to make the total monthly cost more transparent to the customer
This might be what you want
Keep an eye out for jb hi fi plans where they give you a $500 voucher.
I would have thought what you describe is normal - they make you think you're paying less for the phone but you get a crappy plan compared to BYOD plans so you're actually paying for it with the plan.
Also, can't you only change when your contract ends, and if it is ending soon, why not just go on a BYOD plan which will be much more bang for buck?
