AeroPress Classic $55, GO $45 with Rhinowares Tall Grinder @ Barty Single Origin

1943

Hello fellow OzBargainers.

First time posting, so apologies if it seems like I've never done this before. Was looking at getting an AeroPress and found zero deals on Ozbargain, so I had to be a bit more adventurous and ended up feeling pretty good on this deal.

They also have kits including coffee beans (I bought this one):
https://bartysingleorigin.com/products/barty-aeropress-oldsc…

Free shipping on orders over $75, I just tagged on a 6 pack of their specialty coffee cans because I felt boujee.

Had a chat with the guy running the shop on their live chat, he was really helpful. Always happy to support local businesses, and a good deal makes it much easier =)

            • @MurahMeriahOy: yep, started shipping orders monday and been working late nights, all orders will be covered & out to you before the weekend ✌️

  • Aeropress is great. Got mine at $35.

  • Ah damn.. Expired so soon. I wanted to get this and the new price is now $85!

  • +1

Oh man, was also going to grab this morning but the price hiked. Should have pulled the pin last night!

    • Same and I was only just chatting to Bart.
Didn't order last night because the missus couldn't decide on the beans she would like. Rookie mistake!

      • Ah mate, how about I throw in some cans for you, on me? Drop me your order number.

        • Thanks Barty! Order #1933 Will drop you a line.

Yup disappointing, but as im buying this as a gift for someone struggling in lockdown I guess ill go ahead.

BTW is the Hario 'deal' now better than aeropress?

  • +16

I have to say, it's disappointing how many people feel that they are entitled to the lower price, or are criticising the store for increasing prices.

The reality is, Aeropress have been known to be harsh with retailers who sell it at a discounted price. Coffeesnobs was selling it there at cost price for many years, and selling huge volumes. Then Aeropress was pulled from them without any reason given.

I would not be suprised if this was threatened to Barty, or if they otherwise pulled strings behind the scenes. Or if it was a limited amount that they let him sell at a lower price.

Either way, I do not think any blame should be placed on Barty for increasing the price when it's not his fault.

    • What makes you assume people think they are entitled to the lower price? I don't think anyone thought that and people just accept they missed out. It was the way in which it occurred that has me suspect about this business. He could have mentioned it when he came online this morning to comment. The undiscounted price was also increased. It was $90 when the sale price was $55 but now the undiscounted price has gone up to $115.

hey guys, full disclosure we didn't get pulled aside — we just thought it was the right thing to do to increase prices as our budget dried up to continue paying forward having to pay the RRP. again, thank you for all your support, and I look forward to continuing to sharee some good vibes with everyone in times of lockdown and covid. if you ever need to have a chat or need a second opinion on a coffee or kit drop us a chat anytime. we're in this together. see ya soon, bart

    • Hey Bart, I bought 2 x Areapress go yesterday but I should have bought one of each. Would it too late to swap it now? Thanks

      Order number #1695.

      • Drop into the chat and we can sort this out now.

  • +2

Good deal op even at the current price - nabbed the aero press go green pack and also the v60 hario set. Good bit of fun changing up coffee for lockdown thanks for the post!

    • +1

Amazing, thanks for the shout, also you will love this, we're launching a V60 & AeroPress Master Class Coffee Dial-in Service, meaning if you're a newbie to speciality coffee and would like a private master class or join a group with one of our coffee experts … we'll be launching virtual sessions into next week while in Lockdown & Covid for some mid-week entertainment, so if your interested hit up @Nathaniel on the chat use the MasterClass button to leave your details.

  • Not complaining, just wondering. Has anyone had movement on the shipping? I assume they are all packed up and ready for pickup, but sendle is delaying (probably COVID slowing things down).

    • +2

      Nah, nothing yet

      • Sendle :(

        • Anyone else patiently waiting…watching all the aeropress videos.. it’s driving me nuts. Got the tracking but no updates that it’s got scanned.

          • +1

@Taise: Nope it hasn't even been picked up yet.

    • +2

Hey, we've picked & packed, now waiting for couriers to pick-up, all orders should be 🚀 before end of week, we've a few #aero's to go out 🤯 and with that I just wanted to say thanks for your support and patience 🤓👍 all going to a good place ✌️

      • aannnddd… we're still shipping orders, we're doing some late nights sorting sorting everyone's out 🚀

  • YO! guys, have something for you on this fine Wednesday morning, it's the Aussie Aero Press https://bartysingleorigin.com/collections/kits/products/delt…

Was playing around with it yesterday and thought I'd run it past you guys for some honest feed and thoughts before we properly push this deal out. I'm all for supporting local business and I can honestly say the Delter is the same same but different coffee press.

    Thoughts?

Hey guys, how's everyone going? It's RU-OK day? Please make sure to ask a mate, like for real, if they're ok? Thanks, Bart

Has anyone received their order yet?

My order was confirmed on the 30th August. After waiting for 9 days of not seeing any updates, I followed up via chat with Bart and was told my order would get picked up the next day. That night i received an email update that my order is waiting for pickup.
I was told in the chat since I lived in Sydney Metro I should receive it within the business day.
It's been 14 days from the day my order was confirmed and the tracking still shows that it is waiting for pickup. I am no longer able to talk to anyone via the chat regarding delivery. Only was told to leave me order number and they will get back to me.
I'm wondering if I will ever get my order.

    • +2

I’m in the same boat. No pickup scanning yet. Been two weeks!

      • +2

Nothing here either. I got a tracking number that is scheduled for pickup

    • So I got an update tonight that my order had been picked up at 4:24 pm and at the depot for precessing at 4:50 pm.

Estimated to be delivered on Monday 20th

  • Still waiting… but happy to wait with all the savings!

I've got a Delter kit coming too! Thanks!

  • I wonder if anyone has received their order?

    • +1

      Tracking history
      08 Sep
      09:50pm
      Ready to Sendle
      Parcel order created.

Still not picked up from the sender yet. Add 2-3 days from that point, so we might not even get it by this weekend.

Sendle are pretty woeful (check their google ratings) so this is not out of the ordinary.

      • Some here. Hopefully it will get to me next week

    • +1

Just received my order this morning. The bag of coffee doesn't have a roast date on it lol. Well I guess I shouldn't be complaining, its still great value after all

  • +1

Has anyone actually received anything? Looking a little suss

  • +7

Still no movement on my 2 week old order. They say they're flat out with orders which is why there's a delay, but then they keep posting more bargains which is adding to their problem.

I ended up just going down the road and buying an Aeropress from a local store as I got sick of waiting.

    Really disappointing.

    • +1

So much for "Orders placed before 3pm AEST each day will be dispatched on the same day, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays and weekends."

  • +3

Just received my order today 11AM, VIC Metro. The Sendle tracking isn’t updated at all (still showing waiting for pick up 8th September.

    • Good to know! thanks for the update.

      • +1

The Sendle tracking movements dates/times have all been updated AFTER the confirmed delivery.

So basically delivery tracking updates have not been made public to the Receiver.

        • Apparently they only do signature on delivery too, which was not mentioned. Otherwise you have to pickup from PO.
          Is this correct?

    • I thought I was going to receive mine 17th the latest, as I'm in Vic metro as well, then I saw the tracking updated as "Parcel picked up" 11:40am 17th.

I bought a toy car via Aliexpress on 2nd Sep, and it arrived yesterday.
I've placed this order on 30th Aug, seems like there will be another 2 weeks time, by far, this the longest time I've ever wait for an in stock item within Aus.

  • got my order delivered today in QLD by couriers please without signature

  • +2

No movement at all on my purchase. By far this is the worst transaction, made the purchase om 31st August. Super slow, no update on sendle at all.
I had to purchase soma random beans in Woolworths 😂

    • Now i got email saying they are having a problem to ship to my address.

      • I also got this email

        • And they asked to me create an account in their system. Seriously this is getting really annoying to be honest

      • Me too, what even is going on.

      • Same.

        • maybe price to good to be true

  • +3

order still saying unfulfilled after order placed on 30/08. I know Barty said that they're getting slammed and that they're a small business but 3 weeks after with no update is pretty poor service. Have got a bag of bean sitting at home without a grinder..

    • +3

I finally got an Sendle update last Friday from an order placed 31/08 that it got picked up. I truly believe that the order was only just picked up.

Worst shipping experience. So many other purchases have made it within this timeframe. It’s a bit irritating Barty promoting other products and ignore any communications with these orders.

      • +1

        I agreed.

I bought mine as a gift for someone struggling in lockdown. From experience this kind of coffee making is a good way to relax and start your day.
He now keeps stressing asking if there's any update in case he's missed the postie or its stolen. You can see some other anxious posters here too.

        R U OK?
        Nice one dude.

  • +3

I have contacted Barty via chat, they said its already picked up by sendle. And then now I contacted Sendle, they said nope, they didnt pick it up yet.
Here is what the Sendle team said

I understand your sender advised you that the parcel has already been picked up however, it shows on our end that we attempted picking up your parcel last Sept 9 but was unsuccessful since there was no parcel available for collection.

This is getting like a joke now

    • Same here. I'm days a way from doing a cancel or charge back (if they won't cancel in a timely manner). I feel like I'm getting the run around.

  • +1

My 2nd order I purchased for my brother in Sydney Metro just got picked up today 20/9 1:20 PM. Did the whole create an account in the system yesterday.

Funny how an order for Melbourne Metro can be delivered (13 business days) before an order in Sydney that’s just across the bridge from the pickup address in Darlinghurst.

Despite the delayed shipping I’m happy with the product and the beans and I’m sure my bro will be pleasantly surprised since he doesn’t know I sent him one either. Hope y’all get your orders soon.

  • +1

Got the same having trouble shipping to your address email. All my details were correct.
    Weird.

  • +2

"As per your order, if your tracking is stuck on pickup, we'd be happy to priority pick & pack for an additional $9.95 if it hasn't left our HQ already.

We've also hired an additional crew of pickers to help us with managing the extra load of 3000 orders. "

Trying to charge for shipping twice, this is ridiculous. Worst customer serice I've ever experienced.

  • +3

I message the chat again And this what they replied

it's packed and ready to go, but the courier hasn't picked up yet.. between COVID, our big sale, and free delivery..things are going off.
If you're really desperate we can put an express on it for $9.95 and that'll push you ahead of all the other free shipping people.. it's totally up to you.

Man, I am totally fed up with these people, wont buy again their shite

    • +3

Bad look that they told you yesterday that it had already been picked up to now saying it's waiting to be picked up.
They looked sus from the beginning imo.
They said they paid full RRP for the aeropress but are selling at wholesale prices which doesn't make any sense at all.
If they got swamped with orders they couldn't keep up with, why open up orders to international right after this deal as it would only put them further behind. You would think they would catch up a bit first and I wonder if they are prioritising customers who paid for shipping or bought the same deal after they price jacked it by $30.

      • Nah, I bought it as a gift even after it was jacked.
Paid aug30, still nothing and I'm in Sydney, literally 30mins from the store/site.

        • +1

Waiting for pickup since 3 weeks. Not buying again even at 50% off.

Delivery issues. Haven't received after 3 weeks from ordering

  • My kit arrived to me this morning. Thanks team!

I am hoping that someone a little more familiar with coffee/grinding can help me out though.

I have opened up the grinder and I am very excited, however I can't work out how to find "Zero". I watched this video which shows the Rhino hand grinder, but the handle of my grinder does not free fall like in the video no matter which extreme I turn it to. Does anyone have any tips for setting this up?

    • Didn’t know that was a thing. Might try that later.

I just turned it to maximum fineness then clicked it back a couple steps for coarseness. My arm was getting tired so I chucked it on an electric drill to speed things up.

    • No need for handle to go down. Make sure the handle is on then tighten the screw while holding the handle so you get full resistance when it's fully tightened you will feel it. That is your zero point. If you want visual mark one fo the white dots with a permanent marker and then a random spot on the outside burr. Then when you want to dial in line both marks then click anticlockwise from the zero to desired point.

  • I just got mine! Great price so excited can't wait to make a cup!

Got my order was expecting 2 weeks but got it just under 3, it's the pandemic, so it's expected with everything going on in logistics at the moment.

Quick conclusions of the aeropress go and rhino grinder. I think I prefer the Go over the original, especially for travelling and the rhino grinder is surprisingly good for its price, not sure how long it will last though as metal thickness is not satisfactory for the type of usage. About 3 mins grinding for 18g of espresso grind around 4 clicks or one quarter turn for the breville bambino plus at 2:1 ratio. Haven't fully dialled in for the aeropress yet as there is a way to get some crema out using an inverted technique using 60g water 18g coffee 2 min brew at 95c medium roast, but only getting some crema at 36g out, but the 14g 250ml at 2min is just doable as the Go has a smaller volume capacity than original and much less on inverted method, the long black using inverted method was guided one full turn using the rhino.

The beans from barty (green) were on the light side and had distinct acidity citrus notes at the beginning with a pleasant nuttiness at the end. Great on its own, not so great with soy but that's probably the soy not the beans, but is better in a cortado or piccolo as there is less milk being used. Probably better with normal cow tits milk which I haven't tried yet. Good workout with that grinder though

I know people have been waiting but please have patience, as these guys probably did not have much control on the logistics side of things.

Really good deal for what I got in the end. I should have ordered two. I still might order the second one…

    • +1

Thanks for the update. I’ve also received my order in under 3 weeks. Am new to aeropress and grinding fresh. Can you give advice on how many turns on the rhino grinder and what recipe you use with the aeropress and Barty’s green bag?

      • Got mine on Friday after 3 weeks too.
Would not have been an issue if delays were just communicated, rather then silence and blaming the covid postal slowness.

Alternativebrew youtube have a good guide for aeropress go + rhino grinder
