Any feedback on the ONEX EV12 Office chair?

I’m looking at splurging on a new office chair.

Really liking the look of the ONEX EV12 chair and the limited reviews I’ve read online are generally favorable.

Anyone here own one (or used one) and can give some feedback?

I understand a lot of these office chair experiences are very user specific, size, height, build… as a reference, I’m 6ft and 70kg.

Glad you asked - mine recently arrived (EV12 Suede). I’ve got a lower back injury and I tried it out at JB Hifi and was pleasantly surprised how good it felt. The test will be tomorrow as I’ll using it for a full WFH day. I had a HP Omen Citadel which was a great chair but not fantastic in terms of lumbar support but was still bearable to use in terms of my injury.

Hopefully EV12 will be a hit otherwise I’ll have to fork out for an insane amount of money for a Herman Miller.

Stats - 6 ft 84kg longer torso, shorter legs

    • Cheers mate, unfortunately I’m in lockdown capital (Melbourne) so physically testing out chairs isn’t an option.

Looking forward to getting your feedback after you try it out for a full day 👍

I would only get the suede version. The chair has the exact same reclining mechanism as my current home chair which is good but it also has the exact same arm rests as my current chair which are crap.

The support pillows look to be a better design compared to most others but maybe the adjustability of them isn't as good.

Gamers Nexus made a video explaining that most "gaming chairs" are made in the same factories and just rebranded afterwards so finding similar parts between them is common.

The main reason I recommend not to buy this chair is because of the 1 year warranty. It just shows a lack of faith in their product, especially when there's chairs of the same price from Officeworks rated for 8+ hours of usage per day with 15 year warranties.

Ok so I've had a long day WFH (still not finished and started a bit after 7am) and my back is feeling pretty good - definitely noticeably better than usual, when I'm using my HP Omen Citadel chair. For this reason, I'm happy to recommend the EV12 Suede. It's been a fairly warm day too so the EV12 Suede is refreshing to sit on vs the PVC leather of the HP Omen Citadel which gets a bit toasty in warmer weather.

As mentioned by Zach - the support pillows also attracted me to the chair. The headrest is amazing and actually usable. When I had my Secret Lab Omega, I never used the head pillow and same with my HP Omen Citadel.

Unsure what you mean, Zach, about the arm rests. They are exactly the same in terms of function (4D adjustment I think it's called) as my Secret Lab Omega 2020 and HP Omen Citadel. No issues here whatsoever.

Yes, warranty is lacking but you can buy this chair from Catch for only $399 so I'm not too concerned. The HP Omen Citadel is $689 at Officeworks (you can often get it cheaper online but have to pay shipping) only has 1 year warranty too. BTW Onex is an Australian company and I don't think they'd have any issues assisting outside the 1 year period, under ACL. Same applies if you buy the EV12 from a reputable retailer like Officeworks.

The chair linked by Zach at Officeworks is probably good but it's boring looking which is why people like myself, insist on getting Gaming chairs instead. It's a bit like saying I want a cool looking/sporty car (talking appearance only) and someone recommends a Corolla…

The Officeworks page for the EV12 also implies it's a quality chair rating it for 8 hours + usage a day, same goes for the HP Omen Citadel page of their website too. Many of their other chairs aren't rated for 8 hours + use. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/onex-ev12-…

And finally - I'm well-aware many people love implying all gaming chairs are the same and made by the same manufacturers. Not the case I can assure you with the Secret Lab 2020, HP Omen Citadel and Onex EV12 Suede. All feel completely different. Secret Lab though use the same manufacturer as a few other Asian brands of chair - as an example, I'm pretty sure Noble Chairs were using the same manufacturer at some point for some of their models. Look other Singapore chair companies if you're interested (where Secret Lab is based).

Thank you for your 'real life' input…. You nailed it on the head regarding wanting a cool looking/sport car. As mentioned previously, i don't have the opportunity to test it out in the near future so I think I'll just take the plunge.

I noted that you're both fans of the 'Suede' version… I really like the look of the red 'leather look' one.. definitely looks the part - will the downside to this be a warmer a** on a hot day?

      • The 'leather' one wasn't an option for me as it's PU leather - not PVC leather or real leather. PU leather will crack and peel within 2 years. PVC leather (and obviously real leather) won't. The HP Omen Citadel and Razer Iskur are two gaming chairs that use PVC leather for this reason. Yes, the warmth factor was also a consideration for me. In summer my HP Omen Citadel did get quite sweaty.

    • Just checking in after 2 years to see how the EV12 is going for you so far? I'm about to purchase it soon, so checking for how it held up?

  • Watch this before you take the plunge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Yhc6mmdJC4

  • I had the ONEX FT-700. The cushion foam in the chair pretty much deteriorated after 3 months of every day use for work. The metal fram started poking through naking it uncomfortable. Warranty is a nightmare if you bought it online (mine was ebay purchase). There are no contact details for ONEX. I hit them up on FB and after 2 months of them telling me to go back to seller, they finally sent me a new seat part, which was different to the FT-700. I ended up taking the hydrolic lift off it as spare and tossed the rest.
Now using an Office works Heavy duty ergo chair. no issues at all

  • Anyone here own one (or used one) and can give some feedback?

Ignore all these chairs and just go straight to a business that sells Ergonomic office chairs best suited for your height/weight/length & how long you'll be planting your ass on it every day. Don't buy any chair that's manufactured outside of Australia.
