Treadmill Recommendation ($1500- $2200)

Morning Oz-bargainerz! Finally built the courage to make an account after all these years of using this website.

I have searched and read majority of the posts related to treadmills, however, they most are aimed at lower-cost ones (<$1000).
I cycle everyday on the great outdoors (shoutout to all the cyclists in the forums), but my family wants a treadmill to keep active during these lockdowns in Melbourne at home.

Purpose: Family to use (2 people: They weigh roughly 70-80kg).
Looking for something that is built for walking, some jogging and incline.
I guess this is more about learning from your experiences with the machine as well as the service provided by the machine company.

Willing to spend max $2200.

Hoping to hear some decent recommendations & personal experiences.

  • no insight to share but am also looking for a treadmill, what are people's experiences with width of belt and shock absorption for running?

  • I don't use it because I find treadmills boring (I run outdoors a lot) but I got the wife this one about 6-9 months ago and she likes it.

It seems very well built. Arrived in 2 days after we ordered it.

There are more expensive versions on the site as well. That one is pretty damn solid though.

That said there are a billion treadmills out there.

She's about 60kg and often runs 5-10k on it.

    • +1 for Proform!

I loved mine until it had to live outside for a while and mice ate its insides.

I wish I had spent a bit more and went proform again when I replaced it. The wider belt helps when watching TV

  • I'm tossing up between Proform Pro 1500 & 2000
I want a fan because the central heating might be on in the house & need a fan if running (not jogging) 5 to 10km
The Pro 2000 was $1999 delivered from Costco a little while ago

  • Nordictrack S45I NT20 Treadmill. 2 grand at Rebel.

  • +1

Treadmills are very often purchased, used very little & then resold. You can get huge savings on buying 2nd hand ones for this reason. Whatever brand you decide on I'd suggest you look at the 2nd hand market if you want to save some big dollars.

I bought a Nordictrack 2nd hand for around $800. I would say its just 1 level shy of being a commercial treadmill but it is very well built, doesn't squeak unless I have it on max incline and I have got a lot of use out of it. For your budget, you could easily get a commercial treadmill for that. I agree with @adam above, going second hand can net you great savings from someone who bought one but didn't use it. Just be wary though, although the commercial grade machines are very well built, when I was looking most were ex gym ones from gyms who were upgrading or what not. In that case they would most likely be heavily used. Check gumtree and marketplace every few days. You never know what might pop up.

    • Was it difficult to transport when buying 2nd hand?

Really want something for indoor exercise!

      • Luckily my dad has a ute which made things easier. I suggest having a second person to help with the lifting (unless the seller offers to help). We took a set of allen keys and took the lcd screen off to prevent it getting damaged. To make it easier to load we took apart the base (running platform) from the side arms/side rail. Obviously it won't fit in a small car but for a wagon or 4wd you might need to disassemble it a bit further remembering that the more you take it apart, the more you have to remember how it all goes back together. For the substantial savings over buying new I found it worth the compromise.

  • We got this one: https://www.costco.com.au/Sports-Fitness-Leisure/Fitness-Equ…

    Cost $1,499.99 + $60 Costco membership fee.

We had put it off for ages thinking that the lockdowns would end and we could go back to the gym, especially once we moved from Melbourne to Canberra - how wrong we were!

The treadmill is really good, it was relatively easy to assemble, super quiet and does a really good job of absorbing the energy from your running (so no banging), free delivery (some other companies charge about $120 and a higher price overall even taking into account the need to become a Costco member). It was delivered within 3 business days (to Canberra). It doesn't have a built-in screen for watching video, but that can be easily solved if you have an old tablet hanging around. The speakers in it are fine. It does up to 20km/h and has 10 levels of incline.
