  • 4MP…

    • Higher MP is not better when it comes to colour night vision

      • thats true, but waiting for the Reolink to come out with their cameras which will have spotlights

        • My car got broken into last weekend and I've got a Swann spotcam which only caught 15 seconds (replacing it for Reolink 820A and NVR today). Got to say that the spot light provided details that weren't evident in the normal IR recording; colour of clothing etc. I may leave the spotcam up to provide light (if it activates) until I can get a 4K reolink with spotlight.

          • @Elyxar: damn thats sucks. only 15 seconds… shouldnt it be recording the whole time? what model is your Swan spotcam? i was thinking of just getting the Swann system now instead of waiting for the Reolink spotlight cam to come out. Because my house is getting built and i want my builder to run the cables now. Not sure about the Swann now.

            • @MangoUbe: https://www.swann.com/au/swifi-spotcam is the one. I found I couldn't get a sweet spot with the sensitivity. I either missed the rare thing or I had a ton of slightly moving shadows. I had also angled it downward a bit so cars wouldn't trigger it as much. I think it is slightly better now after moving it. It should have recorded a lot more and I don't know why it didn't. Wifi to the cloud only records movement and there would definitely have been movement. The Reolink app is definitely better than Swann's. It just works. The swann app has to be restarted lots so I can get the live feed to work. Just my experience with both. I haven't set up the NVR so can't comment on that. Today hopefully.

              • @Elyxar: damn this is why i wont get wifi wireless cams. They arent recording 24/7

                • @MangoUbe: Actually both the spotcam and Reolink Lumus I have are wired (for power). I specifically went wired because the battery ones miss the first bit of motion before they start recording (my Annke NVR did the same though). The Lumus has been 100% so far but it is under the front porch pointed at the door instead of pointed at the driveway/street so that may or may not be a factor.
I've set up the NVR + 820A and was disappointed at first. It has less FOV than the Swann next to it. Setting it up through a browser isn't possible, you have to connect it to your monitor/tv to go through the wizard. After that I could access through a browser on PC. Updating the firmware required going through the wizard again (even though it kept settings). You can't change the username from admin. Not really happy about that. The image quality was poor at first but some setting tweaks brought it up to almost expectation (Reolink app is better than browser).
Coming from cloud recordings where thumbnails of the motion event show you what it is without watching it; to a timeline on the NVR which just has a tiny timeline that makes you watch everything is not ideal. I may be missing something as it is only day one so I've got to figure that out.
I have a UPS for the NVR coming this week and I'm looking for one for my modem so cloud recording continues.
