Dual Suspension 29" MTB ~ $3000 Suggestions

Looking to get a new 29" dual shock mtb for around $3000, are there any good deals or suggestions?

Currently considering a Norco FS2/3 or Polygon Siskiu T8.

Based in Sydney for reference so please advise if there's some others i should be considering or if there's a good deal somewhere, Thanks! :)

  • See what you can find in stock first, then go from there

  • Get the Norco FS1 if possible because of the upgraded suspension

  • This little trick has worked so for my last two bikes.

I requested from the bike store bikes that weren't in stock. My last score was I think a $6000 bike for $4300.

Basically, the store and I agreed that if the bike was on the floor, then the price would be $6000 as there is holding costs etc for them. But given they don't have it, they'd just order it in for me add $250 or so on top of wholesale and let me ride it away.

I ended up selling the bikes at profit after 1.5 - 2 years of riding them if you can believe it.

Have got kids now so moved to eMTB (my fitness is out the window).

    • Maybe that was the case pre-covid, but right now most popular bikes in the middle to upper range actually have a waitlist. My LBS says covid has basically boomed their business and had their best year on record in 2020 due to how many people buying a bike to get out and call it 'exercise'.

      • Yes, this is an important aspect. My experiences and post were pre-covid

    • Can I ask which bike store is this? Did you manage to do the same thing with emtb?
I want to try this once COVID is over. Supply and demand should be back to normality by then.

      Ps can’t believe a retailer would have a $2k profit on a $6k item.

      • That's normal just to stay afloat. Margins need to be at least 30-40%.

        Rent is 15%
        Wages 15% of T/O

Of that $2k profit, $1000-1500 could be running costs.

What type of riding? No one can give a good recommendation without answering that first. There’s dual suspension, and dual suspension.

If you aren’t familiar with sizing and geometry you need to test ride first. $3k is a lot to drop on something that light just feet wrong.

      2nd this.

Also, nothing wrong with a good hardtail especially if you're relatively new to mountain bike riding.
