Vodafone Switch from Telstra in Sydney

Hi Friends.

I’m planning to switch from long time Telstra SIM to my work corporate deal with Vodafone. I pay $39 a month and get eSIM for Apple Watch. My experience with Telstra has been great but if I switch to Vodafone services it’s basically free for me. But need to know if Vodafone supports the wifi calling and text like Telstra?
Also if their eSIM for Apple Watch is good.
Since we don’t travel now I can at least use wifi to receive and make calls.

I’ve never used Vodafone but 3 services in Australia was horrible.

  • Vodafone will have least coverage, and probably be slower than Optus/Telstra.

    • How about their wifi calling text and iPhone eSIM for Apple watch ?
How is their coverage in city area ? I’m not going be travelling much during Covid as long as I have wifi calling I’ll be happy and saving $39 a month.

  • +2

I'm not on Vodafone, but they do say they support WiFi calling… https://lmgtfy.app/?q=vodafone+wifi+calling+australia

Given my experience with the poor Telstra coverage in some places (e.g. most of Canberra), I think the best thing you can do is get a discounted prepaid SIM from your supermarket of choice and see what coverage is like for yourself in areas that matter to you.

    • This is the way. Cheap Boost/Telstra SIM to test Telstra network, cheap Belong/ALDI/Woolies SIM to test Telstra Wholesale, cheap Amaysim/Coles/Optus SIM to test Optus, and cheap Kogan/Vodafone SIM to test Vodafone.

  • The current day Vodafone network is a combination of 3, Vodafone and TPG. All Vodafone postpaid and prepaid plans support 5G, VoLTE and WiFi Calling. Only postpaid offers eSIM and smartwatch plans. On iPhone visual voicemail is also available.

So, the feature list is comparable to Telstra's, albeit with a smaller network and cheaper pricing. Been pretty happy with customer service too. Definitely worth trying them out, network satisfaction guarantee also available too.

  • Thank you guys I’m porting my personal number to my work number as I save $39/month as my office would pay the bill. The IT guys told me they will get me the Apple Watch eSIM for free and 7GB data a month.

I’m Working from home now and mostly in the future. If I have good wifi calling enabled that’s all I need. I never went past 2GB in the last year or so.

Thank you all for all your support.

  • 7GB.a month? Eek! That's a small corporate plan!

    • Ya I found it weird too. It says unlimited calls and texts. Hahaha
