Can I Port to ALDI Mobile and Port Back to Amaysim All in Same Day?

Hey OzBargains.

I want to port to Aldi mobile and port back to Amaysim today, to capitalise on the 6x28 deal for $7. Can I do that with no hassles all in one day, because there's something online that says you have to wait 90 days to go back to your own network.

If it’s the same network, it’s technically not a port..

Aldi is Telstra, I think, and Amaysim is Optus

no rules in particular but your asking to go into porting hell

    • figuratively or literally is it a bad thing doing this

      • by trying to port out and in on the same day you are increasing the chance of a major issue getting your port stuck .. this can take days to sort out

Ideally keeps ports to a few days. avoid transfer using the same back back end carrier as that again increases you chance of problems. plenty of sim sluts on ozb who can give more info on what not to do

  • funny do i have to make a new amaysim account now

  • Merged from do i have to make a new amaysim account

hey ozbargains i want to port from aldi mobile to amaysim but i have been with amaysim before so do i just make a new account

    • What did Amaysim say when you asked them?

  • I haven't called them i just made a new account anyway seem to work but I can't check if its 6 month's or 1 month all i know its i used the voucher and didn't pay anything

  • I'd say in theory what your trying to do isn't impossible but the challenge is the Service Level Agreement (SLA) for the industry and also both companies to complete their steps. SLAs for porting are basically non-existant as there is no benefit to losing customers faster which means you cannot be sure it will happen instantly or the same as others on this forum.

    Aldimobile's porting page says:
These are the times that mobile service providers are obliged to process mobile ports, they affect all mobile providers industry wide.
Porting days are Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm (AEST) and 10am to 6pm Saturdays (AEST).
Sundays and most national public holidays are not porting days which means that a mobile service provider is not obliged to process a port request, however, some ports may still be processed outside of the normal porting hours.

    They also add:
We cannot guarantee when your port will, or will not, take place.

Last line is the SLA - no guarantee.

    More likely they say:
If you’re porting (transferring) your existing mobile number from another supplier, the service changeover can take 24 to 48 hours and is subject to ‘porting hours’.

Amaysim seem to be similar, however are stating up to 3 days

There seems to be no technical reason if you port within the porting windows above, it couldn't happen in a day but if it all goes wrong you cannot blame anyone or fast track it.
the other thing to be careful of is I find phone settings can take a will to get right, such as the internet config, so this could result in lost time stuffing around with the new settings for each provider plus obvious you have to keep the previous service ACTIVE each time you move it. Last time I ported to Aldimobile, took months to work out their IP/port for MMS was incorrectly being configured and listed on their site/support team.

    The other factors:
Any mismatch such as the persons name could stop the port or leave it in limbo
I have no idea if there is any rules applied industry wide to stop repeated porting or slow down various types of ports. Have you heard of porting scams? e.g. porting high value customers mobile numbers away to take their multi-factor authentication. Common sense would suggest some restrictions should exist on the overall porting process, possibly as simple as a slow down for a multi-port to get a human to check nothing dodgy is occurring.

But if you do I'd be curious to know the time it takes.

p.s. I also thought Amaysim was on the inferior Optus network not on the Telstra which is what Aldimobile is.

    • i think i got lucky, porting took no more than 5 minutes from amaysim to aldi mobile, than when i went from aldi to amaysim it took no longer than 5 minutes aswell. I did the same thing on two phones, and the thing that took the most time was researching. and to be honest overthinking what i actually was doing. Its so daunting trying to not lose your phone number, specially my mum's, because I can afford to lose my own number but not someone else's. but i will say i don't know if my plan is 6 month's or only 1, i guess when the sim arrives i will know.
