Quake is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2021 with an enhanced update to the original Quake 1996 game developed by Nightdive Studios.

From memory quake 1 was before cdkeys, i continued to play online long after returning a borrowed friend's copy. Is the original release still playable or have they since added unique licensing?

  Maybe the "enhancement" is that it's a bit more slow-going? It might be too difficult/fast otherwise for people who played it 25 years ago ;-)
