  • This good for overnight camping? The weight seems OK.

DO NOT buy a Blackwolf pack unless you're a sucker for punishment, horrible, very uncomfortable and low quality, buckles that pop open and such… On the surface they kinda look ok but compared to a decent pack they are total crap…

I used a $125 Blackwolf Mountain Ash 75 for a few big hikes in Tassie, Freycinet circuit, the Overland Track and Frenchmans Cap, it was like a torture device, I didn't realize how bad it was until I invested $280 on a decent Osprey, it's lush, I really wish I had just forked out for the decent one at the start, VERY much worth the extra money, it makes those big hikes so much more enjoyable…

If you're just doing overnighters with a light load and not walking far a Blackwolf "may" be ok, otherwise, spend a bit more money IMO…

      • Cheers for the advice. Maybe its not been able to go anywhere but i started mad researching backpacking in lockdown lol. The backpacks i'm looking at i will have to import from the US, was thinking either the Granite gear Crown2 38, Osprey Exos 48 or Osprey Levity 45. I only was thinking just overnight trips, i couldn't do multiday hikes. Outside a tent i got most of my stuff in a small/light factor.

The general consenses seemed to lead me to believe the Hyperlight 2400 40L ones where good but screw paying $500 for one.

        • sorry, I just realized it's a daypack, it may be "ok"… As soon as I saw a red Blackwork the PTSD kicked in and I started venting, lol

        • I recent got a Gregory Optic 48 from Amazon US for about $230 and have used it on two trips. I went with the Gregory as I needed a small torso length but for the Osprey that meant the hip belt would have been too short to fit me. The Gregory hip belt has plenty of length, and I liked that it has pockets on the hip belt too. Weight is about 1.1kg for the small.

That said the straps are maybe a little close together for me (wide shoulders, but short torso). I might have been better off with a medium.

  • Might as well limit the sale to WA and SA folk… not like we’re going anywhere.

  • $5 more for the 55 version

Neither of these look like it has a back frame though but I might be mistaken. For a day pack that's probably fine but I wouldn't count on this being comfortable with lots of gear on multi day or longer hikes

or $40 more for this one at $135. not sure on frame on this one but it does have more features. https://blackwolf.com.au/collections/clearance/products/phoe…

I have this one from a sale a year ago. I use it when we travel intercity, either via car or flight. I like it, has loads of space after I reach the aircraft limit of 7kgs, lots of pockets and is quite comfortable. I haven't really used it for hiking, but more of a general purpose travel bag.
