I've had a Parlux for many, many years and they are a workhorse. I consider this to be very good value. I recall paying around $300

FYI This is one of the lowered powered ones. We have the 2250W version and it dries long hair very quickly.
Does that mean it gets hotter/more dmg?
yep, 'extra heat' buff = +3 DPS
It means it has stronger airflow which is quicker at drying hair as well as keeping it straight. Imo this one is definitely more than suitable for people who have naturally straight or wavy fine-thin or shorter hair. You wouldn't see enough difference between this and one of the higher models to justify the price.
I have very long, very thick and naturally curly hair and found the Parlux 3800 (2100 w) amazing for it, completely straightened and dried my hair in 15 mins or so and I didn't even have to go over it with a straightener if I wanted to. That one lasted me 7 years before I dropped it from 1m high and cracked the casing. I recently upgraded to the Alyon which is the 2250w version and it's definitely better but not a HUGE difference. Still worth it for me who uses it frequently and saves a lot of time with it.
You can always use it on a lower setting
Weird flex, but okay.
Has been as low as $103 before according to 3camels: https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0010NFUAQ
This is a old model wouldn’t buy for this price
what's the newest equivalent?
385 light discount around $180 or the newest one but in another range is alyon discount around $240. This model is also cheaper on catch for $143.2 if you use some giftcards or cashback you might be able to make back the delivery fees
If you don't need the ABSOLUTE BEST then the 3800 or 385 is perfect. I used the 3800 for 7 years before I dropped it and I have thicker and curlier hair than almost anyone I know. I have the Alyon now and it's great but If you don't have crazy thick, long or curly hair I don't think the benefit would be that noticeable for the price difference.
What's so special about this hair dryer?
Made in Italy and works great and reliable
Everything. Trust me. There's a reason why I constantly see hair salons using Parlux, it's because they work VERY well, are extremely powerful and last forever (if you don't drop it on hard tiles from a meter high like I did after 7 years.. it still works but I cracked the casing so I didn't feel safe doing so). I used to spend 40 minutes trying to dry my long, thick and curly hair with a $50 dryer and it would dry but be a horrible frizzy mess.
I splurged on the Parlux 3800 a long time ago and I almost cried with how much of a difference it made. It dried my hair completely straight in under 15 minutes and looked better than I'd ever been able to style it in my life. I saved so much time and it actually made it much healthier because I wasn't spending 40 minutes blasting it with hot air and then ages trying to tame it with a hair straightener after. I upgraded with the newest model which is even quicker and I know it's going to last me at least 10 years + if I don't drop it like the last one.
Wow I'll keep Parlux on my watchlist.
I have a parlux 385, can vouch for the quality. Been using for 3.5 years, hair feels so much better using this one.
Agreed. I've got the Parlux 3800 about 7 years ago. It's built like a tank and so great. Dropped it so many times and still going strong.
Fourthed - not just well built, but dries hair so quickly…
congrats to those who manage to get one. I've had this and ghd for years. Both are high quality units. imho, parlux however edge over ghd simply because it's much lighter. it does however feel cheaper than ghd due to that. so if looks matter go ghd, and if practicality is what you're after, definitely parlux.
My old 3800 is still going after 8 years. Well worth the price.
I've always bought expensive hair dryers like these but then I tried the Xiaomi ionic hair dryer and it does a fantastic job for a fraction of the cost.
Darn, missed out.
My hairdressers manage to dry my hair using one in less than 5 minutes.
It takes me around 15 minutes to do it myself.
Catch.com has it for $143
The $15 kmart has lasted us 5 years. What is so special about this?
