SlideIT Keyboard for Android USD $0.99 Instead of $5.99

90

Found this deal in the android market. It states for this week only but doesn't say when it started or finishes. Have used the keyboard before and it's definately worth 99c. Allows you to slide your fingers around the touchscreen keyboard to spell out words.

  • great app. obviously it would be better if it still was 10c! nonetheless, worth my 1 dollar.

  • I can't understand why so many people like Swype or SlideIT.

For me sliding to spell words just makes the whole process a lot longer than typing the same thing - and that's even without having to lift my fingers every few seconds to see keys (I do have largish hands so granted this issue might effect me more than others).

I prefer Perfect Keyboard - it's a normal keyboard with additional functions mapped to keys that you access by holding them. And it is almost scary how good it is at guessing what you're trying to type (by far the best of all keyboards I've tried).

But anyhow, good price if you want this app.

I can't understand why it's taken someone so long to make swype/slideit.. For me, its the best keyboard ever on a touchscreen.. I bet i can even out-text you..

    • Perfect keyboard is on sale too. $1.86 AUD instead of $2.99

Anyone know of a good keyboard for Japanese text (roo-maji text input)?

        Swype :P

I can swype faster than I can type (43WPM with 8% error).
I can swype faster than my sister can type on her iPhone, and her speed is 54WPM with 4% error.
As for error, it is within 2% due to autocorrect and adaptive learning style.

For this sole reason I like Swype.

EDIT: My favourite Android swype is TouchPal, I used SlideIT but didn't like their overall system since they don't support other languages char sets!

    • I find swyping is faster for short words because you need less accuracy (hard to be accurate on a small screen). With longer words, selecting the suggested words beat this advantage. BTW, I use FlexT9. I'm really missing this ability on my work phone (iphone).

  • Nice Keyboard!

I got the app for 10c, and another similar one too. I don't really like them. Don't see the point. Just saying.

  • This app's been the only one constantly installed on my phone, worth it at original price, definitely worth 99c!

  • So is it better than Swype (which I use a lot)?

    • Definitely more function then Swype. But I suggest you to try TouchPal, it's free ;)

    • I think if you are too used to swype you won't be able to use other ones that well.

ANy 8pen users out there, how the f**k do you type like that?

    • I find Swype A LOT better than this.
I bought SlideIT when Android had the 10 apps for 10cents promo a while back, I tried it out a few days ago after upgrading to ICS (as Swype wasn't installed by default), after an hour I uninstalled SlideIT and signed up for the Swype ICS beta.

  • Im a convert to swiftkey x. I tried the various sswype like keyboards but found the auto correct pushed me in the wrong direction too often. With swiftkey x you have to adjust the way you type so that you focus on the suggested words. Once you start to master it there are very few times that you need to spell a word in full. Still the qualifier remains - big fingers (mine) probably not well suited to dragging my finger without lots of collateral damage.

    • I agree. I have tried SlideIT and Swiftkey X and I much prefer Swiftkey X. The ability to slide your finger to type with SlideIT just seems to complicate things and as you said Swiftkey X has very good suggested words.

  • Just an FYI, SlideIT 'may' collect your information.
When you download it there is a prompt that informs you that it collects data and requires data access (or something like that). I deleted it as soon as this was pointed out to me and changed all my passwords. The last thing I want is this random company being able to collect my bank account details etc.. Google it. Not enough data security

I believe that warning appears for all third party keyboards.

      • Just installed 3 different keyboards on ICS and that message popped up for each of them.

    • I'm not quite sure what you expected … it's a keyboard. You use it for data entry ;) It can't not be in a position to (potentially) collect everything you type.

You can always download Droidwall (if you haven't already) which is a free firewall for Android that works using Linux iptables but is simple to use and block access to SlideIT.

  • I am a convert AWAY from swiftkey. I enjoyed HackerKeyboard and Swype much more than this. Got it when was 10c, sticked with it for a while to give it a chance, reverted back.
