How Hard Is It to Get Trade Access to Bunnings?

I go to Bunnings a LOT. And I'm not a tradie, but I run a small business and frequently rely on Bunnings for supplies for my business, so I figure I might as well be a tradie for their purposes. I just can't figure out how to get access to Bunnings as a tradie. I'm imagining the perks would include a discount of some kind.
Anyone?

plus the ability to drive in and pick stuff up even when my city is in covid lockdown.

I hope you have your flame suit on, there will likely be some upset people here soon.

Not needing a flame suit but Bunnings offer free click and collect for any purchase amount. They’re incredibly organised during the pickup process too.

I personally wouldn’t want to go into the store with others who have trade access, when their click and collect process is super easy and allows you to avoid people.

    • I thought Bunnings is only click and collect now?

      • No idea what it is where you are, it's business as usual where I am.

        • NSW

          • @deme: Not sure if you were being sarcastic, but Bunnings being open as per normal for in-store browsing in NSW is one of the reasons people are saying our government is not taking lockdown seriously enough. Gladys claims it's "one of the strictest" lockdowns, but every other state seems to be stricter… I mean I guess it's in the top 10 in Australia?

            • @trialex: Perhaps it's my local one that's shut or they all hide and lock the doors when I arrive?

              • @deme: Yep must just have been your local - though the day after I wrote my last post all Sydney stores announced they were going click and collect only for the general public…

Long as you got an ABN you can get one. Bunnings use it like it is a loyalty scheme.

    • Ie handyman. Different trades get different discounts depending on their expertise.

If you're in a relevant trade, easy. If not, why are you trying?
You really just need a legit ABN and registration.

Discounts are minimal, so if you believe you will be saving money as a public member - this is not what it's for.
They have a good collect and collect system as mentioned by others.

While you may gain access, it's not really designed to 'skip the queue' or the likes. Doing so will dilute the reason for others that use it for the intended purpose and the likes.

Speaking of which, knew I forgot something earlier today! Powerpass app is good to review one spending.

Agreed, don't bother for the discounts. I mostly like using it for storing receipts for warranty. Still waiting on getting one of those hoodies or some other free merch.

I bet you shop at the Wodonga Bunnings, don't you 'donga'? lol…

Be careful with your warranty. Have heard that Bunnies won’t honour warranty purchased through PowerPass if the item is intended for DIY/home use. They consider PowerPass purchases as ‘trade use’

        • +2

I challenged it a few years back and was given a replacement

dilute the reason for others that use it

You mean Bunnings gives your a card to track your purchases and keep you shopping there and not another place.

      I'm signing up today!

yeah, not very hard. Just need an ABN.

  • It's very easy. As mentioned above, just have an ABN and answer a few questions online and you'll get approved. It gets approved faster in-store though if that's an option for you.

    • I found it a bit more involved than that. Did you have to provide any evidence like I did?

My first attempt, I signed up for an ABN and then filled out the online Powerpass form. A few days later I got 20 questions from them, including asking to provide a recent quote or invoice from my business. I gave up then, but could have doctored one with a bit of effort.

My second attempt, I registered a business name as well, then went to the Bunnings trade desk and the helpful person signed me up right away. Online access took a week or so longer once the Powerpass card arrived in the mail.

      • No, I didn't need any of that.

  • What supplies do you frequently buy for your business that are from Bunnings?

My hairdresser has a Bunnings power pass, so I’m guessing it’s not hard to get!

All you need is an ABN, discount is lousy at a max of 5% for what I have seen on my account

    • No discount on some brands like ryobi as they are for domestic use.

No reason why you shouldn't have one especially if you rely on Bunnings for your business like many do.

  • You can get an abn and not have to register for gst. You may not be regarded as a small business for tax but as an enterprise. Iin any case your turnover has to be over 75k to pay gst. it takes about 5 minutes to get an abn and a further 5 minutes to register as a powerpass (trade customer) with Bunnings. The questions that they ask about your primary business activity, from what a staff member told me could affect your discount. Perhaps a painter would get a higher discount on paint and consumables and just 5%'on general hardware.

The tax stuff is all on the ato website have a look at it rather than rely on my dodgy memory outlined above. ( I am not qualified to give tax advice). My enterprise is that I own a rental property and do much of my own repairs and renovations and have had an abn and a powerpass card for a few years.

Downside of a Powerpass, I believe, is you won't get your 5 year warranty on Ozito PXC tools. The Powerpass assumes you will not be using Ozito PXC tools for DIY, which means 5 year warranty doesn't apply.
Happy to be corrected on this if I've got this wrong.

    • +1

All you do is buy the PXC tools on a separate docket and not use Powerpass. You just have to remember to do it.

All the PXC tools I've seen don't attract a Powerpass discount anyway.

  • You only need and ABN and register for a Powerpass account. The trade discount though is only 5% so not that much really and only on selected items
