What Is The Best Value Smart Wi-Fi Door Bell?

Hi,

I'm new to home automation and looking to buy a smart doorbell with camera. I know there are $40-$50 doorbell in Banggood but reviews are mixed.

I'm particularly keen on the Google one (comes with nest hub V2) but price is a bit steep.

My criteria:
1. Video quality especially night vision
2. Wireless (no electrical works needed) so battery life :)
3. Footage is saved /back up (just in case it's getting nabbed) :p

Thanks

I'm eying the nest one as it's the only one to my knowledge that shows straight away on the hubs when the button is pressed. The price is definitely on the high side

  • Can't answer the Best Value part, as your tradeoff between price and quality may differ to mine.

I've got a Ring Doorbell with the solar charger during prime day and subscribed to their ring plan. It meets all three of your criteria at the cost of $280 + $40pa

    • Thanks, i was looking at it as well but dun like the subs model. With nest it is 3 hours footage with no subs.

      Thanks

  • Have a gen 1 basic Ring door bell currently.
Video quality isn't the best, and noticed some decent delays in notifications recently to both the ring chime and apps. Cant imagine how bad some of the banggood ones must be.

Have ordered the new Nest door bell to replace it so save me paying a ring subscription fee (3 hours is heaps for my usage) and I already have other google speaker devices for notifications.

Bought a EUFY about a year ago and works great. slight delay but nothing unreasonable. have set up geo fencing so when im away from the house i get a notification. otherwise if im in the house it just chimes normally. Can stream live from your phone and best part is no subscription.

Video quality is fine and pretty clear, comes in wired and wireless models (note the wireless comes with a wired connection, you can pick up an AC transformer from Jaycar for $20), and footage is saved to hub inside the house. EUFY offer the option to subscribe to a cloud storage solution as a back up as well if your so inclined. if you dont save to the cloud its free to use, however it is slightly higher upfront cost (which is worth it in my opinion).

    • +1 to Eufy. Local storage and the ability to be wired or wireless is what pulled me. I also set up geofencing to do the same.

Avoid Ring for double dipping by charging you and your police who will watch and record everything you do and say: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/aug/29/ring-amaz…

  • Bunnings Orion wireless doorbell.
    Local file saving
    Wireless
    Good camera
    Cheap

Use the tuya smart life app and it's easy to connect to other smart products. So mine is set to turn on front lights when pressed at night, also turns on front lights if motion detected

    • Any link? Thanks

Local file saving in the doorbell or hub? Reason is just in case someone run away with the doorbell lol.. Thanks

      • Local. 16gb sd card included.
For $99 I'm not too worried about it going missing, and it is attached with tamper proof screw so would need to rip whole thing off the wall

Don't use grid connect app. It's junk. Use smart life or tuya smart

        • Thanks for the info. How do you charge the battery and how long does it last? Thanks

          • @Bargain-er: Charge with a usb power bank if you can't be bothered unscrewing, otherwise you can either charge via usb or remove the batteries and use external charger on your own batteries. It takes 18650 x 2 but the ones that come with are soldered together.

I get 2 months plus with motion set to low. Quiet street. And good WiFi signal. Low signal will kill battery quicker
