Experiences with Matt Blatt Replica Office Chairs? (eg The Eames and Aeron Ones)

I need a new office chair, and I've got a store credit for Kogan so it makes sense to get it from there if I can. I'm 2 metres tall and have pretty average posture, so looking for something that will help with that a little bit. I'm unfortunately not shopping with a budget of more than say $200, so I'm looking at something like the Matt Blatt Aeron style chair or the Eames management replica. Does anyone have experience of these products and can comment?

If I'm way off base and better off shopping elsewhere I'm happy to hear that advice too - just figure I might as well spend the Kogan credit to get them out of my life.

Thanks!

The Aeron has 12 years warranty. How many does the replica have? Don't just compare initial outlay but also value in use (total cost/years of service). If you can't afford it then buy something else, just not fake crap.

Agreed. My Aeron chair is many years old and been a great chair! I got it 2nd hand, but would have been worth every cent buying new too!

Its been fault free and comfortable. Which I don't think I could say the same about the Matt Blatt aka Kogan cheap knock off.

If you WFH, you'll be sitting on this char for hours a day, many days a week. Is your bum not worth spending the money on?

      • We have a 25 year old Aeron and is used daily.

    • I agree. You get what you pay for. $200 doesn't buy a very good chair that will last. I bought an Ergohuman for about $700 from Gainesville when we first entered lockdown in Melbourne last year. Best purchase ever & I expect it to last for many years. I am in it for about 7 hours a day, 5 days a week

I have a Herman Miller Chair that is 17 years old - even the gas lift is still going strong.

  • Thanks for all of the comments so far - it seems the consensus is you can't get a decent office chair for $200. I would be curious to know what the ones I specified in the original post are actually like though. I just haven't got $700+ to spend on a chair at this point, so no matter how great they are or how long they'd last, it's just not a possibility for me.

  • I bought the Emerson office chair from Kogan sometime back for $199 and I can't complain for the price I paid. I searched through temple and Webster, ikea etc … it was either this or the markus from Ikea … went with this one as a gamble.

It was shipped local from NSW so I got it in 2 days - the quality is great - its heavy, looks good and is reasonably adjustable for me. The lumbar support is good.

    • I'm looking at the same chair - can I ask if the chair creaks at all, and also the height of the top of the armrests above the base (when the armrests are at their lowest)?

My current chair creaks, and arm rests dont fit under the table - I've gone to Officeworks to test some of their brand new chairs and those creak when moving around

      Thanks in advance,

  • Whatever you do, do not buy the Eames Replica for extended periods of sitting. It has no ergonomic features whatsoever and will destroy your back. Especially at 2m tall. It is designed to be a meeting room chair.
