What would be the best way to solve this situation.
At risk students with little to no access to the internet. When they do it is done via 'hotspot' off a phone.
I want to buy about 6-10 sims for some of these students so that they can get online and participate. What is the best value and easiest to set up options?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What risk do they face or is that not relevant? I ask because advice would be different if say these kids are at risk of abuse etc.
If you are a teacher ask yourself why are you paying for this? I applaude your selflessness but teachers get paid squat, I'm paying a shit tonne of tax and I'm pissed off that money isn't going to education leaving teachers to pick up the bill. /rant
As far the sims there are three things you should be aware of:
ID requirements: If you are purchasing or activating a service you will need to show more identification if you have more than 5 prepaid mobile services activated.
That it's in your name. Again I really applaud your charity, but consider this like running a TOR exit node, are you prepared for what happens if one of the kids uses it to break the law?
Third if you do go through it call the ATO for advice on a tax deducation.
Ask a telco if they can offer you free or a discount service.
Ask the government why they are not providing this, Education is a human right. I want my taxes to be paying for this, not you.

I just want these kids accessing the internet as quick as possible. Not too fussed about the other issues that might come with it.
The education dept usually do provide these…not sure what the normal process is but usually a pool allotted for these students

It'll be used for zoom meetings and online work using google classrooms and docs. Not sure how data heavy this is, I've always used the school wifi.
Anything above 20gb would hopefully get them through the lockdown.
get $10 prepaid sims from woolies/coles that have 30gb for 28 days - month, use up, then rinse and repeat

I'm with Optus Mobile BB if you want to go with Optus sims I can use the donate etc app to give you 100GB per Month of my 500 Gb data
don't really know if I donate 20 to each sim or just a lump sum only will look into it if that's the way you go DM me if interested

There has been some really generous offers here. Thank you. I'll grab some coles sims and see how that goes - every chance the data will be used for everything but school use but we'll see how we go.
