    A better investment than Super.

  • +7

Note: Super Mario 3D All-Stars has been discontinued and removed from the Nintendo eShop, so only physical copies are available now.

Now for Amazon AU to price-match Bravely Default II (Was excited for a second, when I saw the thumbnail was Bravely Default II šŸ˜›)

I have my doubts if this is really going to be a collectors game given how manby are out there and how discounted it is…. but then that's what I thought when Super Mario 64 dropped down to $50 back in the day.

      • +4

Considering that as of March 2021, Super Mario 3D All-Stars had sold more than 9 million copies worldwide, I doubt it would become a collectors items.

      • +4

If only you had bought and kept a sealed copy of Mario 64, could have sold it for $1.56 million US dollars

      • I have my doubts if this is really going to be a collectors game given how manby are out there and how discounted it isā€¦. but then that's what I thought when Super Mario 64 dropped down to $50 back in the day.

Super Mario 64 isn't really a collector's item either. One of the best-selling N64 games, you can easily pick one up for like $20 on Gumtree

        • +1

For sure. The one that sold for over 1.5m USD recently was a typical "$20" cart, albeit super mint graded. Makes me inclined to agree that the sale was entirely contrived for whatever reason (Hacker News).

    • +1

Instead of price matching bravely default, they increased it back to the normal $64 -_-"

      • +1

Yep, Amazon just matches the lowest price available by competitors. There wasn't enough time between the price drop and selling out so Amazon never matched the $25 price. Instead they saw it sell out and returned it to full price. Same thing happened with the SSD I posted a few days ago as soon as Harris Technology sold out, Amazon increased the price they were selling at

        • that makes sense, owell, black friday then lol

          • +11

@Johnnysopals: A good reminder why competition is good for the consumer. Amazon seem great but they're only willing to match the lowest price while it's available. It's good to support the source of the deal (especially if small local business) rather than always giving Amazon your money

            • +1

@FireRunner: I 100% agree, and in particular small businesses. Other places like target, big w, eb games, jb hifi etc are definitely not in the same ball park as small businesses because they are just as corporate pinching as amazon is. Competition should never solely rely on customer loyalty and thus business is a game of improving and adapting to change and not just being stagnant. If they can't compete on price, they need to provide a service that is way better than what amazon can provide, which can be done but whether or not the corporate are willing to make changes that look at long term r&d into beating amazon and not just short term changes that won't affect their stock price as much then things won't change and these big retailers who are owned by bigger conglomerates except for JB will slowly just kill their own stores. Price is one part of buying but people only have so much money that they are willing to put into helping their local eb, target, big w. We need more small "mum and pop" stores to rise and give retail a better name in the future.

    aw limit 1 per customer..

    • +12

damn it, was going to be my ticket to early retirement

  • +14

Damn, not that I care about Target, Big W or EB games so much (they need to up their retail service game so they can match amazon) , but I really feel bad for the smaller gaming businesses, I mean how do you compete with Amazon price matching everything people sell.

    • +16

Yeah, it's rough. I buy from smaller local businesses like Gamesmen if prices are exactly the same and encourage others to do so.

  • +2

This collection is more of a collector's item at this point. nothing against the games they are great but they are just too old school for my taste in 2021

    • +6

      šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Any of these games are better than the trash made now.

Galaxy is quite possible the greatest game ever made.

      • +2

I played and finished them all back when they released in original Nintendo hardware multiple times. I rather play other newer games that I have never played before.

To hardcore Nintendo fans I must sound crazy thinking this way, according to them I must play only Nintendo classics and nothing else until the day I die. šŸ¤¦

        • +1

TBH I played 64 and missed the galaxy games. But I haven't been blown away by any 3d mario game since 64 (which I also acknowledge has not aged well).

          • @justtoreply: Mario 64 was a revolutionary & a masterpiece for its time but yes I agree It has not aged well, I am glad I was there at release day to play it for the first time as there is absolutely nothing that can beat that first time impression, that's why I decided to leave this games in my memories and not buy this All Star collection.

          • +1

@justtoreply: 3d world (the Wii U version) was a work of art.

            Most underrrated Mario game ever.

        • -1

Besides from the camera, there is no difference between Mario 64 and any modern platformer.

        • +1

I played and finished them all back when they released in original Nintendo hardware multiple times. I rather play other newer games that I have never played before.

You know, there are plenty of people who have never had the chance to play or finish these games. E.g. I played SM64 as a kid back in the day and don't remember most of the game, so it's nice to be able to play it again. Never played Sunshine, and only ever played Galaxy here and there with friends because life and uni and all got in the way.

    • I preferred 64 over Galaxy and odyssey! Might be nostalgia though.

        • I think all 3D Mario games are great in their own way. From 64 to Odyssey each is a unique experience (well I guess Galaxy 1 & 2 are quite similar, though still distinct). Each new game does not make the previous entries obsolete like many other franchises.

    • +2

The collection is kinda crap, all 3 games are emulated. Not really worth it even for collection purposes as they didn't bother to fully port them to Switch.

      • +1

Exactly. If they were genuine remakes I would consider buying it, I loved sunshine back in the day. Super Mario all stars was awesome but it was a proper SNES game. I'm not paying full price for some zero-calorie copy paste emulated crap.

      • +1

Should have included Galaxy 2 and 3D Land, at least then you could say you can play every 3D Mario game on Switch.

      • +2

Hard to say, at full price, I agree it's too much. However, at $40, it's not a bad price - works out around $13 a pop which is around what I would probably be willing to pay if they had Virtual Console on Switch

      • +2

Yeah they could have at least made Sunshine run at 60fps like you can do in Dolphin on a phone.

  • +1

Awesome, been wanting this game, thanks OP šŸ™‚

  • Damn thatā€™s some good game

  • +1

Super Mario 64 has a PC port compiled from resources hacked from Nintendo. It plays better than their official Switch 'Remaster', has high-res textures, even supports analogue camera like any modern game.

    • +1

Resources werenā€™t ā€œhacked from Nintendoā€. They reverse engineered the code and created a tool to extract the media assets from a legit retail copy of the game. They are providing no copyrighted material as you must provide your own copy of the game for the assets.

      Itā€™s 100% legal.

Also, itā€™s not just for PC. Itā€™s been ported to 3DS, Wii U, Ambernic devices and probably way more I havenā€™t come across.

      • Yep can also play it on a modded switch. Works better than the port on SM3DAS!

        • I fired up the PS2 port as well. It was an… interesting experience.

    • It's not a hack. It's the N64 Super Mario 64 De-Compilation Project.

  • -3

    What happened to Lysander

  • -3

If someone were to have a modded switch, they could play this on there for free. I don't accept the behaviour, but in theory if someone had a gen 1 switch and a spare hour or so to hack it, then they would be pretty well off

  • Ended up grabbing this, now to wait for an OK price for a switch lite and breath of the wild to go on sale.

  • +6

Haven't played my Switch for almost a year. Still have Breath of the Wild in it's original sealed package. Yet, I still bought this because Mario.

    What's wrong with me?

  • Turns out I paid $63 for this in September last year from a Gamesman deal. Haven't even opened it :(

  • Thanks op, manage to get one from plenty valley after 3 failed click and collect process….. -_-
