Retractable Fly Screens - Any Good?

I hate the security screens I've got on my doors, but I do want flyscreens for the summer when it's nice to have the doors open and a breeze through the house

I've seen retractable flyscreens advertised where you pull them over from the side, are these any good? They look a bit janky to me, flimsy plasticy things that will last a year.

Any advice on if these are any good, or any recommended brands?

Edit - the screens are for a hinged door, 820mm wide

  • Yep, we have a side-mount retractable on the 3.5m tri-fold doors to the patio and a top-mount retractable over the 2m wide indoor/outdoor kitchen island.

The pleated ones are surprisingly discrete when viewed front on, and at an angle you see the pleats, which is a great safety feature for kids/dogs.

    We went with Artilux.

  • You can pay to install a security sliding door. Something like this - https://www.spscreens.com.au/product/security-screen-doors-a…

    • Nah, I don't want to pay extra for a security screen when all I need is a flyscreen

  • I have the retractable screens from A&L, they are surprisingly good
Were very expensive though, over $1,000 each (but not so painful built into the cost of the house)

    • Thanks, I think the website says they're only for sliding doors?

  • I hate the security screens I've got on my doors

Why? Do they have holes in their flyscreens, or what?

Replacing the existing flyscreen on a door or window is a fun 10 minute 10 dollar job for someone with zero handyman skills.

Find a video on youtube, you'll be amazed how easy and quick it is.

    • I hate the door itself. It's an inconvenience, it doesn't neatly close (I've tried adjusting the closer but it's a choice of either limply doesn't close or loudly crashes shut). We mostly leave it propped open with a chair and it bangs around in the wind. It's also on the way of a catflap I'm wanting to put in

      So, many reasons!

  • We had a retractable screen 3. 5 m long installed over 7 years ago. It cost $2000 then. It was done by

    Still going strong.

  • Definitely worth paying for the better quality. Haven't had any myself but have used a few at clients homes. Some are garbage and some are good. Would suggest buying from someone that has actual displays to play with
