"42’s program is based on peer-to-peer learning, so all students work together, teach, and learn from each other. Thus, at 42 Adelaide, you’ll be a teacher and a student at the same time. You can also count on a pedagogical team that helps you guide your curriculum and ensures the school’s running smoothly."

That alone sounds like a spectacular waste of time.

  • I wouldnt put 42 adelaide on my qualifications in my resume. Im guessing this was originally a course for student visas.

  • Why does it matter where you get your qualifications if it's the exactly the same government recognized course? Recognized everywhere

    • Its dictated by the market.

If you contract or apply for competitive roles, your entire resume can be overlooked if your qualification is from an unknown institution.

    • Yes, it is recognized in a sense that Cert IV does not make you more or less employable in the field. Experience does.

Philosophically it doesn't but pragmatically it does unfortunately. There are a lot archaic industry practices and gatekeepers (HR and others doing the hiring that really have no day to day relation to the job they are hiring for). CV / Resume keyword filter automation also kill a lot of CVs before they even get in front of human eye balls for all sorts of dumb reasons.

Speaking from experience being in this industry for 20-ish years I can tell you that not once anyone was interested in my education let alone asked to see formal papers. The only thing that seem matters to recruiter is the name of the last employer, if they recognize it - you're in, otherwise you're out, basically that means they predominantly hire from competitors or similar sized enterprises.

        • the name of the last employer, if they recognize it - you're in, otherwise you're out.

Oh there's some truth to this for sure. Education matters most when you are at the beginning of your career and not so much toward the middle or end. If you don't have any work experience, They only have your education to go off of. Mid-career, they are way more interested in your work experience.

But I will say that the education thing is heavily dependent upon a bunch of different factors. The person reading your CV and their thoughts on if education matters and how much. That usually depends on their own education and sense of what "makes a good employee".

Also heavily dependent on your industry and their specific take on education requirements.

Also depends on the particular job you are applying to and what level of complete education they are requiring.

I can tell you that not once anyone was interested in my education

If you have gotten to the point where you are sitting in front of a human, the decision regarding your education has already been made.

let alone asked to see formal papers.

Certs, Associate's and Bachelor's, they usually just take your word for it. Anything above that they definitely do their due diligence checks to make sure you aren't blowing smoke.

I've also been in the work force for over 20 years now (first IT job was around 2001-2002 and was doing manual labor before that). I've seen just about every part of the spectrum when it comes to interviews and interviewing. (I'm 39 and a Site Reliability Engineer at a Fortune 100 software company)

  • Trying to work out what there game is, looks like you need to attend their campus to get past initial screening

"The Piscine takes place on campus and must be
completed in-person. It’s an incredibly rewarding,
once-in-a-lifetime experience. You’ll try and fail, over
and over again, and this trial-and-error period is a
    learning process, developing your problem-solving
    skills and creativity.
Those who pass our piscine, will win
place in our school, free of charge"

The qual they offer seems to be a legit Diploma but they're not a registered RTO and don't have an .edu domain

"Our Diploma of Information Technology (Advanced Programming), ICT50220 is proudly delivered by our RTO Partner Academy IT - RTO Code 40358"

No idea how the funding model works, anyone else?

    • +2

"The Marshall Liberal Government has provided more than $750,000 in funding to assist locally based youth employment enterprise KIK Innovation open the world-renowned education model at 24 Pitt Street CBD, in partnership with Uniting Communities."

"KIK Innovation funding through a JobTrainer Project and from the South Australian Government’s Research, Commercialisation and Startup Fund (RCSF) to secure the Australian licence for 42."

  • OK, that makes sense now, be interested to see how they go when the $750k runs out!

    • Same as every other TAFE that is offering free courses?

      • Except they're not a TAFE on the public payroll and dont seem to offer any fee paying courses to subsidise the free ones although that must certainly be coming.

There's more then enough parasites sucking government money without any noticeable return for decades so I'm pretty sure they'll fit just fine.
