Takeaway Places to Recommend in Sydney CBD?

Since many of us have started working from home, I'm curious to hear your suggestions of good takeaway places to try. I've defaulted to mixed rice from David's Kitchen or World Square one too many times and would like to explore more options!

        Location
        Melbourne

        no wonder.

        • Melbourne is blessed with I think at least two RR locations, one on either side of Southern Cross

If there was a Red Roo(s)ter in or near Sydney CBD, I would already forget about lockdowns! Please tell me where this magical place is near me.

      • I think the nearest one is in Summer Hill or Domestic Airport.

        • Yeah I've been to both of those. Still too far for a quick meal unfortunately.

  • If you're near World Square, Yasaka does takeaway ramen; my favourite ramen shop in the city

    • Basax: $15 Boneless Sweet and Spicy meal. Pic here.

    • Anjappar: $15'ish thali dish with your choice of 4-5 curries, rice, poppadum and naan bread. Butter chicken and Chicken 65 are a must and pick mixed veg and either spinach or lentil veggie curry as well. Avoid the chilli chicken one. This is 100% midday coma food but not overly spicy. Pic here - If it's closed, North Indian Flavour across the road is a good second place for similar food.

    • Happy Chef: $13 Chicken Laksa "No. 26". Pic here

    • Nameless: $17 Standard double burger is fantastic but they have weekly specials every Wed so check before you go. Fries are so-so but popcorn chicken is best around.

    • Per Kilo: Recently relocated to Pitt St behind World Square half-way up stairs to dodgy massage place but they have a nice seating area now. $15'ish Beef nachos with jalapenos are absolute must-have. Chicken good too. Pic here. - Highly recommended.

    • Jimmy's Falafel: Always crazy busy so grab a $17 Falafel Goddess Pita takeaway and walk around corner to sit on bench at Martin Place. No fries. Always ask for extra napkin. Pic here.

    • Pepper Lunch: Chicken Katsu Curry is very good here. They use the nice white chicken meat rather than grey and very tasty curry. Pic here

Some may be closed/have changed operating hours currently.

    • I love the range in the options you've listed. Thank you!

What type of food? I like Ajisen Ramen at world square for Japanese, there's also another Japanese place up George street where you can pick out food. Surry Hills dumplings is like super cheap for dumplings.

Basax Korean Pitt Street is alright if you want fried chicken with waffle chips. Happy Chef world square or Alex Lee Kitchen @ Spice Alley I like for Laksa. Planet Pizza Glebe is probably one of the cheaper pizza places I get with $22 for a whole pizza, garlic bread and drink through uber, though I prefer "Angry Pizza" better. Sunday Potts Point (grilled chicken and potato) and Harrys cafe de Wheels (hotdogs and buns are fairly cheap) are a bit far but alright for something different.

Slide n Shake haymarket is close by, pricey but I like the people and the food, I sometimes go to Grilld as well for burgers.

Indian I used to go to world square near where Gami chicken is, but unsure if its still open, but is a quick buy for butter chicken and samosas.

I hear praise for "Yor Yok" for thai but haven't been there.

    • Don't forget about 5km distance from home travel restrictions.

Too many cheap places. You get what you pay for

  • can anyone give a boots on ground report on how restaurants and shops in the cbd are faring without the corporate foot traffic? are they going under, for lease signs going up?

Some smaller ones have closed temporarily and not open at all.

Others have reduced working hours and some reduced menus but business as usual.

McDonalds George St remains open 24/7.

There's still decent foot traffic during the day.

  • Small Lemongrass Thai in Central Tunnel $10 All day special, hosted an Ozbargains Meetup there in 2019.
Also like the Malatang at Central Park but its usually $15-18 for me
Ipuddo Ramen Central Park $10 special every month

  • I used to go to Mrs Chans Thai off George St http://charliechans.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/charli… but currently closed due to Gladys.
