GPU Pricing - 6600XT vs Older Cards

Now that next-gen cards, namely the 6600XT, can be had for roughly $600, when do you think we will see cards like the RTX 2060 and 1650 Super return to ‘normal’?

I would love for the 2060 to cost $400 and the 1650 S to cost $200 since that is what I have my eye on. But I know in the current market that is a dream.

Some retailers who still have stock are selling the 1650 S for $499, even then it is only a single fan model. This doesn’t make sense when you can get almost 50-70% extra performance by spending another $75 for a 6600XT. (PCCG)

Thanks for your help. I just don’t want to spend more than a PS5 on a 1080p 75fps PC because then I would rather just buy the PS5. Cheers!

Those old cards are still good for mining which is why they're priced very high.

If you search RTX 2060 on eBay and filter "Sold" listings, you'll see that in the last 10 days or so at least 15 people have bought either new or pre-owned RTX 2060's for what is essentially 6600XT money.

No reason to discount the old cards if they're still in demand. There's also a subset of people who simply don't have time to go looking for bargains / reviews and who have deep pockets and would be willing to purchase any card that they can get their hands on.

I'll never understand why Ebay always seems to have the dumbest buyers who even pay more than retail for used items, but it's great when you need to sell and have a "no selling fees" promo offer available.

  • The PS5 is going for $950+ on Ebay as it seems to be sold out for RRP at retailers

  • Considering any 6600 xt less than $700 has already sold out, IMO I wouldn't get your hopes up. Wait and see if those actually start restocking regularly or if it was just a once off at launch prices (like we've seen so many times before). Retail price of the 6600 xt is $589, there's no other cards on the market at all selling for RRP so it will likely be short lived unless AMD has a huge amount of stock that no one was expecting.

    • To add to this, rumour is that AMD funded the card companies on doing a release price at RRP. Once that stock is gone, prices will go up again. So basically the $400 1650S is here to stay, your best bet is jumping hard on any $589 6600XTs you see or hoping nVidia flood the market with stock of the 3060 at $500 to undercut AMD.

  • wait for 6500XT

I am hoping to get a 1650 super for $200. I bought a gigabyte one late last year for a rig I built my dad for $190 brand new. I regret not buying two at that time.

    • same here :(

The fact is, this is the new "normal", you are not going to see GPU prices behave like it did more than 10 years ago.

There is a new variable now, cryptocurrency prices and profitability. The reason why you are seeing ancient cards like RX 580 8GB (released in 2017) priced similiar to current generation cards like 6600XT is because it is quite efficient at mining cryptocurrencies, so therefore the prices are being bidded up by miners. As long as there is money to be made, there will be demand for it, hence prices will not drop.

  • The availability and pricing of graphics cards at the moment is solely based on the miners' appetite. And in general miners are willing to spend more than gamers when it comes down to it. It will never stop until mining isn't profitable anymore unfortunately and no one is sure of when that will be. Also the 6600 xt although a bit more efficient mines just about the same as the 2060 on the ethash algo hence the price is very similar.

  • You cant buy RX6600XT for anything under $750 now.. i think it will sit around $800 soon and stay around there… A $750-$850 RX6600XT is not going to make anything in the lower end drop anytime soon.. i managed to snap myself up a saphire RX 6600xt for $639 Delivered.. great card.. uses he same power at the wall as my Rx 470 while playing the same games but maxed out settings..idles 20w less.

Im happy to run this for another 5 years if i must. Like i did with the Rx470 that inpaid $270 for lol haha value gaming costs alot more today

  • Just sold my 3 year old 570 8gb for 500 on Facebook marketplace, the gpu industry right now is crazy..
