Samsung S6U 27" QHD

Hi all,

Was looking for a 27" with USB-C display and PD.

Most cheap 27" QHD or 4K monitors via USB-C are quite expensve but for some reason I'm looking at this Samsung and can't see why I can't find reviews on it or see whats bad about it?

Positives:

27"
up to 90W usb-c charging
Display video via USB-C
Ethernet via USB-C (doesn't seem that common?)
75Hz refresh rate which I understand is accepatable for non-gaming.
300nits which again is acceptable
You can daisy chain
IPS screen
Slim bezels
Tilt/pivot/swivel etc.
vesa mounting

Negatives:
DP1.2 and 1.4 so a bit old
Not curved - at 27" isn't a deal breaker either I wouldn't of thought.

Samsung specs: https://www.samsung.com/au/business/monitors/s60ua-27quot/ls…

It's $539 which not cheap but compared to others not expensive and it's a Samsung?

Is there anything that stands out as a deal breaker because I'm so close to pulling the pin and getting it lol.

  • Looks interesting, doesn't appear to be any deal breakers if you say it meets your needs.

However, have you seen this? Its almost $90 cheaper and looks as though it meets your criteria

    • Looks similar but one feature was the power delivery which Samsung does up to 90w .

Looks liked MSI MD271QP only passes video (hdmi) through usb-c

  • Also too make sure it can actually do its rated 75hz max refresh rate over the USB C if you're relying on that.

    • Cheers - not really relying on refresh rate ; says max 75Hz and no mention of anything elsewhere.

It's just for WFH so don't need refresh above 60Hz - obviously more the better but as long as it does min 60Hz I'll be happy.

  • Interested to know if you bought it and if it lived up to expectations?

It offers a lot of features for the money (QHD, 74Hz, 90w USB-C, HDR10, PIP) , but there are little-to-no reviews of it anywhere.

Otherwise what did you buy instead and are you happy with that?

    • Didn't end up getting it.

I end get a Samsung M7 32" in the interim for WFH which I've got to work out two things (60Hz on USB-C and also when via HDMI (prior to getting usb-c cable) when i plug into charger it dims the monitor to a point where i would say it's close to unusable. So i rushed to get a monitor for WFH but I'm kind of thinking that 27" might be a bit small for programs i use side by side so kind of glad i got 32" in the interim.

Another person on whirlpool got one but waiting for them to get it and respond.

  • I brought two 27 inch S6U monitors because of 90 watt USB-C charging, the ability to daisy chain and 1440p resolution. I thought the 75 hz refresh rate was nice too.

After two weeks of use, this is my opinion:

    1. 1440p in the 27 inch is perfect. I would not go for anymore as the font will be too small and you will be squinty. It’s enough to have two word documents open side by side;
    2. USB-C with 90 watt charging has been perfect. Just one cord from my laptop.
    3. The Daisy Chaining works with the USB-C and provides 75 hz to both monitors. Sadly only the main monitor can run HDR. I think it’s the same with DisplayPort.
    4. It has HDMI 1.2 which only provides for 60 hz, so it’s a waste.
    5. Brightness and colour are great. You can really tell the different when comparing the one monitor that is SDR and HDR one.
    6. It’s expensive and I think over price. Probably should about $100AUD cheaper in my opinion, particularly that it has HDMI 1.2. DisplayPort could also be upgraded.
    7. Noticeable difference from 60 to 75 hz when watching YouTube / movies. My phone is 120 and video content at this rate is amazing.
    8. Having dual 27 inch monitors would definitely benefit from being curved, which given that it has Daisy Chaining function it should be incorporated. Probably the most annoying thing of this otherwise brilliant monitor.

    Pro’s: 1440p, USB-C (90w), Daisy Chaining, DisplayPort 1.4
Con’s: Not curved, HDMI 1.2, price
