Where to Go for a Honeymoon, $10K Budget, December?

Thought international travel might be on the cards by the end of the year, but that is seeming increasingly less likely. So now my partner and I are looking to reallocate our honeymoon budget to somewhere local. Looking for somewhere for 4+ nights, preferably all inclusive. Any suggestions?

Cheers.

Do your neighbours have a nice house?

    • They have a townhouse identical to my own, but might be a nice change of scenery

4-day boat live-aboard scuba diving open water course on the Great Barrier Reef. There's nothing you can do that's better or more memorable.

    • Similar theme, heron island is great.

What state? as expecting no border closures or lockdowns by then might also be an issue.

In VIC. NSW has been ruled out but hoping QLD, TAS or SA might be an option

      • +5

Tassie would be a good option for VIC but you probably want to do it as a spur of the moment thing, pointless booking now… Do some research then at the time if the border is open book flights and accommodation a couple of days before…

Booking anywhere this far in advance would be a recipe for disappointment…

Hire a yacht and travel around to the islands in the Whitsundays.

  • Uluru - make it memorable

December probably wont be too nice out there, hot hot hot, unless the OP is from northern QLD or such and doesn't mind the heat…

If you go to Uluru, do a Segway tour, great fun !

Nah - sweat your arse off, perpetual Aussie salute to the flies - what could be more memorable?! ;)

        • OP would need a get a hotel room with decent AC, honeymoon + heat (without AC) = no baby-making….

Good luck with that no borders open definitely no airports

Don't expect to be able to leave your own state.

Where do you live? i.e which state/region

    • VIC, Melbourne

it baffles me that people still make holiday plans at the moment… 6 months from now, I don't want to see a thread "HELP! Lost $10k on honeymoon bookings due to Lockdown #538"

I mean one aspect is trying to maintain some mental sanity by having something to look forward to. But yeah would definitely be considering the covid cancellation policies of somewhere before booking. Our flights are already in the form of vouchers from a previously cancelled trip -_-

Peak summer! Head to Tassie. Saffire Freycinet is one of the beautiful options on offer. Cheers.

    • Yes this place looks incredible! Unfortunately it's almost 3k a night for the rooms available in December which is a bit out of budget for us.

      • 4 nights is very limiting also, flying into Hobart or Launceston then travelling to and from Freycinet, that would be half your holiday gone, it wouldn't be much fun…

Heading to Hobart and basing yourself there, then doing some daytrips, Moana, Port Arthur, Mt Wellington, Mt Field, or such, would probably be wiser…

Or, if you're into nature maybe fly into Launceston and bus to Cradle Mountain (getting a rental car probably isn't cost effective/practical at the moment), or take the Spirit of Tas to Devonport and drive to Cradle. but both those options would be time consuming also, you'd really need a week or more…

        • Yeah might be worth going for longer and spreading the budget to do more things. Thanks for the suggestions!

Even though I have lived there for most of my life, I would recommend against travelling to Tassie during summer for a short trip.

Tassie was notorious last summer for zero rental car availability, thanks to rental car companies selling off their cars in a panic during the early days of the pandemic, then being left unprepared for hordes of mainland tourists wanting to visit during the summer.

Even before the pandemic, if you were able to find a rental car during summer, you would have been paying over $500+ a day!

You really need to spend more than a week in Tassie to really do it justice, so I suggest you visit it for two weeks, not four nights.

At least Tasmania has a tendency to not declare an entire jurisdiction a COVID hotspot if there are a handful of COVID cases (or even zero local cases for more than a year…), so if things get under control in Victoria by summer, you probably wouldn’t need to worry about quarantine requirements. That should not be construed to be a reason to visit Tassie though!

    • Peak summer! Head to Tassie.

Highly unlikely Vics could travel to Tassie then.

  • Bendigo would be nice.

    • Only at Easter…

    The Dandenongs…

I wouldn't risk booking regional Vic in case of lockdown…

    Kangaroo Island…

but then again, you wont be going anywhere really

  • I heard that Playshack is pretty good?

    Just avoid the owner.

    Hotel Quarantine for 14 days.

Put a tent in your backyard, and play bush sounds cd.
oh, and a case of bottled water, honeymoons tend to lead to dehydration

  • In addition to the new crown, there is also a very serious delta virus.
Don't take it lightly because of the vaccine.
