What Hair Wax or Gel Do You Use?

Ladies and Gentlemen in OzBargain, if you style your hair, which brand or product do you use? One of the best wax I've used is from 'Morris motley', their strong matte styling balm applies on my palm and spreads out easily before I start styling but the problem is the price.. I got one as a gift and didn't really use them again, when I try other waxes from chemist warehouse, some of the waxes is very sticky and doesn't come off your palm that easily (that's what she said).

So just wondering what do you guys use for styling your hair?

note: Im an asian dude with very straight hair so some products that's 'Extra strong hold' don't really hold my hair up the entire day…

I've got short hair and use this Gatsby one. Then finish it off with this super strong hairspray. My hair barely moves all day!

i use Gatsby on my kids hair, and seems to last a long time.. tried all those Fruictis and that, and they're crap

      • I used to bring back and try lots of different brands from my travels in Asia and Gatsby has definitely been my favourite.

    • I use gatsby (moving rubber) too, it's fantastic. I have wavy hair and the grey works well to keep it looking more natural. The puple goes a little crispy

  • I use Baxter of California clay pomade. Strong hold, smells nice, doesn't look greasy.

L'oreal barber club beard and hair styling paste
    Holds nicely, looks natural

  • none right now due to lockdown, my hair is much thicker and stronger now. go figure

These are the ones I use and my barber uses too! Honestly they work so well and the best I have used so far. My barber sells them for $25, but i bought them directly from the supplier for $10 each. Both matte finishes

    • I second redone. That website has $10 shipping for one of those is that normal?

      • I think that is flat rate shipping for however many you buy. I am not sure though cause i just went to their store to buy it

      • Red One (the Green one) - awful naming, but works quite well. Just add gradual amounts otherwise it can get shiny in spots.

I don't have hair to style but my wife swears by this one

  • Ear

    • might need some donors to get the amount needed
      .

  • I dont wash my hair for a week, that creates its own lube that holds it in place… not even cyclone tracey can move it

  • For curly hair this is brilliant, might also last well for straight?

  • Muk - Red (I think that's the strongest)

  • Dominate "Out of Bed"

  • Dapper Dan

No, not me. From the Coen Bros film - Oh Brother, where art thou?

  • Rockstar. Don't mind it. Have used Muk and American Crew previously

  • Have straight + thick hair (barber referred to me as a white dude with asian hair the first couple times I went), cycled through the "extra strong hold" products not holding until by barber put me onto King Brown Pomade .
For a time I was pairing it with their grooming spray to give a bit extra texturing.

Have recently started using Uppercut Styling Powder for some quick and dirty volume, then finishing with a touch of king brown to do work it to your preferred style.

    Hope it helps.

  • I've got hair like yours, most of the time I use stuff from supermarkets.

This is my go to since I was a kid, although it looks like they've changed the box/formula. Very easy to apply and reasonable hold and washes out easily

    https://shop.coles.com.au/a/amaroo/product/defining-paste

I might have to stock up the old box in case I don't like the new formula

A while back, I decided to try something new and tried this

The hold is the best I have come across, but don't over use it. The only issue I have with it is that it is clay, so it is really gritty and tugs on your hair if you don't rub it in your hand and warm it up enough. Smells really artificial too. A bit on the shiny end as well

In general, I find that it is best to use hair spray after you are done.

My favourite so far has been this

    https://www.adorebeauty.com.au/kevin-murphy/kevin-murphy-rou…

A bit on the pricey end, but I really like it. Really hard to wash it out of your hair completely, but I don't mind it. Keeps my hair looking matte (my hair gets oily really quick)

I suppose it also depends on the hair style you are going for, the stuff I do is very simple. if you are going for some of the more crazy styles you will need to blow dry. Blow dry takes too long for me, so I never do it

  • I use Gatsby for my hair

  • I use Uno, it's Japanese. I have the nuance (green) and hybrid hard (red). I also have Gatsby, hair jam titled Active Nuance, in purple container.

    All serve a different purpose.

You also need to use a brush and hair-dryer to get the best effect.
