Home Insurance Recommendations

Hi all,

I used to join Commsure as i'm with the bank and can't be bothered looking out for better deals and reading terms and conditions for each company.

I am wondering anyone knows any good, cheap home insurance companies that covers fire, storm, floods and house content?

Thanks in advance.

  • You might get more responses if you ask what companies provided bad experiences last year. At least you'd know what companies to avoid.

Most premiums did take a bit of a hike after last year's disasters so any real bargains are going to be hard to come by.

  • Try Allianz

  • When ours came up for renewal, I did a heap on online quotes with different companies and Suncorp came back the cheapest.

    • How was the excess on it though? Many people have complained that the excess was very high, and they wanted a significant amount to bring it down.

  • i recently looked at my home insurance.
true, everyone has gone up because of the natural disasters we've had in 2011.

strange though that when you shop around, other companies are willing to insure you for 300-400 cheaper.

how is it they can offer lower rates for new customers and exisiting insurers can't?

or is it a baiting technique for hte first year, and then BAMMM the price hikes next year???

  • There isn't really an overall cheapest insurance company. They all use different ways to calculate the premiums. You really need to just find all the ones that meet your needs and do their online quotes to find the cheapest.

Fire and Storm are standard across all insurers. Flood is rapidly becoming standard (due to the QLD floods) but you still need to check as it will take time for all insurance companies to implement it.

  • Thanks for the advice everyone.
May i ask how much does everyone pay for their home insurance each month? I know it's different in terms of the house value etc. Just some idea of figures. Thanks again
