I think there was a scanning issue but I manage to grab 500 g of coffee beans for $3.20 from Woolworths.

What's the price in receipt?
PM me next time. Good posting though.
After logging in, it's $12.
Which store? Maybe it's store specific or in-store only.
What OP said was about physical store, self service check out option. I guess.
Yeah, which is why I asked which store, saves people wasting time.
Not sure why anyone would buy Lavazza when you can buy beans from Aldi. See links for rating and where the beans are from:
https://www.beanscenemag.com.au/aldi-lazzio-beans-win-2021-c…
https://www.aldiunpacked.com.au/supplier-spotlight-black-bag…
I used to buy beans around the $40-60 price mark from cafes / smaller roasters. Wouldn’t go back to that on price and accessibility.
I buy the “medium” Lazzio 1kg bag for $11.99. Other styles are good to, but we’ve landed on this as our favourite.
I think the freshness of the Aldi beans is better than the big brands sold at other supermarkets.
Agree they're great value, although the freshness varies a lot at our local. Probably depends how quickly they're turning over stock at your store.
If I see a post here for great coffee for around $30/kg delivered then I'll usually grab that, but Aldi is my fallback.
The single origin beans are arabica, but I think they've switched to Robusta for the cheaper ones
Because they are $6.40/kg!!
Not sure why anyone would buy beans from aldi or any other supermarket, lol.
buy freshly roasted beans from a local roaster, buy a week or 2 week supply, grind as you brew. its a game changer.
don't buy 1kg of beans if you can't finish it in a week, you think your are saving money, but you are losing big on taste. don't forget you are still saving a lot
i did it all, i did instant coffee, brew, capsules, v60, moka, aeropress, bodum, espresso, etc… my pantry looks like a coffee museum, lol.
all those in the grocery stores don't have a roast date because they have been sitting on the shelves forever, you are getting old stale beans.
nothing beats freshly roasted beans.
I buy 500g bag for me and my wife. we both drink 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. 4 cups a day total, 18 grams of beans per drink = 72 grams a day x 7 days for a week = 504 grams. i usually order on monday or tuesday, get it next day. i have monthly subscriptions with 4 different roasters, its awesome.
Arent you supposed to wait for a week after the beans are roasted to use them? thats what I remember reading in few palces if I remember correctly.
Most of the roasters i have bought from suggest from 2=5 weeks is best time to consume after roasting. Have tried a few different beans including from deals posted on ozbargain in my new Breville machine, but so far prefer the Aldi Dark roast beans. Will keep trying to support local roasters here and there when I come across them.
Btw Aldi beans DO have best before and roast date.
@nepalesesquirrel: Have tried comparing Aldi dark roast to Harriers dark roast? Harriers stand second in the chart, so I wonder how much better is the Aldi ones.
@[Deactivated]: Havn't tried, but for $14/kilo and convenience if you are already an Aldi shopper you can't go too wrong.
@nepalesesquirrel: I will definitely give it a try! Thanks.
Aldi beans DO have a roast date.
It's up the top of the pack in the form of a date written backwards.
I grabbed Nicaraguan beans that were only a couple of weeks old. Basically couldn't use them any younger.
Can you please post a pic of this date written backwards?
@[Deactivated]: How do I post a pic? It's a basic printed date, normally at the side top. I always thought there was no date either, but had a real good look over the pack and it was hiding in the top/side folded part. Now curious to see if the seasonal single origin roasts get new batches throughout the year, or just one run per flavour.
Edit - someone else posted a pic below. Just read the date backwards
@tunzafun001: You are right mate. Just checked mine too. Thank you for the advice. Next time I go near Aldi, I will pick up a pack of dark roast. I want to like aldi, some of thier products are good, but the fact that I have to push a cart from coles/woolies keep me away from them. I only go there to pick a handful of products that I can carry in a bag like coffee, butter, thier margerita pizza etc.
@[Deactivated]: Strange, we have Aldi trollies. But like the roast codes, they do hide around to the side of the shop, and you need to put a refundable $1 coin in to release them.
I have no preference to any of the shops. I just buy from Coles/Woolies if they are cheaper using gift cards etc.
But all the prices at Colesworth are sneaking up. Especially the meat. Meat prices at IGA / Foodland etc are still in the $10.99 to $16.99 for a half decent cut. Now almost unheard of at Colesworth.
Coles also do a decent dark roast homebrand bean, single origin coffee range and choc powder. They are VERY similar to Aldi, and likely from the same source.
Aldi are good for things like Mayo (theirs is up there with Kewpie at 1/2 the price), cooking stock, breakfast cereals, Multi grain bread, yoghurt etc. For example, woolies had Campbells stock 40% off on special last week… Aldi stock is $1.89 full price any day of the week.
Something like Tuna is the same price at both, but Colesworth points earning, giftcards discount and no credit card surge charge makes it a better prospect.
@tunzafun001: You have to put a dollar, but then you cant get it back till you put the trolley back next to the store. I want to be able to push it till my car and leave it in the trolley collection in the park. Not push is back till Aldi. That should be their job. Every person I see at aldi, are either pusing coles or woolies trolleys or carrying stuff in their hands. what a pathetic scene. Aldi fans can downvote this comment if they want to.
I talked to the Aldi store guys who were refilling the shelves what the deal was with coles and woolies trolleys at Aldi and he told Aldi does not pay us to collect the Trolleys that is customers job. If that is what Aldi wants, then as a customer, I dont want to purchase all the stuff from them and then carry till my car when coles and woolies provides cart for that. So I only purchase what others have said is good.
@[Deactivated]: Yeah fair point. I can't blaim them though with all the Muppets around here taking trolleys and then leaving them on the side of the road, followed by kids pushing them into creeks and drains.
They need the return system in the carpark as well. But then I guess it comes at the sacrifice of pricing.
For now, thanks Coles / woolies for the trolleys.
@tunzafun001: And I agree with the Muppets leaving the trolleys whereever they want. I have seen people leave trolleys outside the trolley station railing instead of inside it, how pathetic.
Because Aldi beans are just as fresh at 1/3 the price, they are consistently around 3 weeks old. Good crema and aroma, especially for milk based drinks there is no point paying a premium for days old locally roasted beans.
The canstar survey had only 920 participants.
900 of them only shop at aldi.
Aldi beans has no roasted date nor best before date. At least on Supermarket beans based on the best before date you can judge how old they are. So unless people are buying enough beans from a given store, they may be months older. Oh wait you also need to push a cart from coles woolies because Aldi is too stingy to share thiers.
Aldi beans has no roasted date nor best before date.
Ah yes, you are right. Just saw that. Missed the side top. Its there on mine too. Sorry.
Every time I have seen Aldi beans they have a "best before" date printed, which, from what I have seen online is 15 months after the roast date. Normally printed up the top of the bag, in between where the sides fold in.
Ah yes, you are right. Just saw that. Missed the side top.
Below it is the roast date written backwards
I tend to buy when they are on special. I prefer Oro beans over Aldi single origins.
Because lavazza & Vittoria being used by major coffee shops while I’m yet to see anyone use Aldi. Yes they are cheap. But thats about it. I’ve tried and its just blah. It’s really a personal taste rather than someone’s rating.
Not sure why people rave on about aldi beans. Apart from being cheap I didn't like them at all.
Had all signs of being stale
Because lavazza & Vittoria being used by major coffee shops while I’m yet to see anyone use Aldi
Because Aldi are a home brand, their beans are obviously a "brand" packaged in Aldi's packaging. Of course a coffee shop is not going to use a home brand coffee, but I'm sure many use the actual same beans that are used in Aldis home brand.
Check this for the details of Aldi’s roaster - https://www.aldiunpacked.com.au/supplier-spotlight-black-bag… - its the same company that roast Veneziano (Nomad), which a lot of cafes use. They use small batch production for freshness.
I can’t see a roast date on the bag I just bought, but the ‘best by’ is 30 Sept. It won’t last two weeks ;) Major supermarket products are 1yr or more, from memory.
Please share the receipt :)
Bought one in the past by mistake, ended up in the compost bin.
Scanned as $12 in my local.
I Just bought this in-store.. Rang up as $12 for me in Northern Sydney… so don't go out of your way…
Thanks a lot for posting the deal.
Nah. Too late. Unavailable.
