Sending 7 Inch Record to Germany

Any advice on sending one 7 inch record to Germany?

I've looked up Aust Post and the best (cheapest) option would be to send it via letter mail although this option is limited to printed material. Would I get away with enclosing the record? Using the Aust Post parcel option is way more expensive.

Otherwise can anyone recommend an international freight company for this small and less than 50gm item?

I wouldn't send a record to Germany using letter mail.

If you do it might be cheaper to break it in advance so it would fit in a smalller envelope.

      • The letter mail option allows up to 320x260mm so it's plenty big enough for a single. Also up to 20mm thick so could protect it quite well.

Do let us know if it arrives in one piece. Record collectors can pretty finicky so probably won't be impressed if you sent it as a letter mail.

          • @kerfuffle: Thanks for the advice. It is a very serious collector I'm sending it to.

        • You should check with the Post Office first, as earlier on during pandemic, they were very strict on the type of items that would be accepted as a letter (i.e. printed matter). If they suspect that's not what it contains, then they may require additional postage due to it being re-classified as a parcel.

          • @savemore: Thanks, I'm thinking that sending it via Aust Post as a parcel is the way to go.

    • Would you use Aust Post for parcel mail or a private company?

I don't send records, so I can't answer that question. What I would do is use a proper mailer as @savemore suggested below and write fragile on it.
