I got two numbers on Boost $150 kit expiring next week. I have done a bit of research, it seems the best way is to port out to a $2 Optus or Coles $2 sim. Is this still the case? Optus or Coles would be better? Have anyone done this in 2021 able to share? Do I need to wait for 1 day to port back in as some have suggested?
Porting out of Boost and Back using Optus or Coles $2 Sim?
Comments
I activated mine too late, no longer can have the $150 recharge. I was late by a week. I have checked, I don't have the $150 recharge option. I know that if I activated about a week earlier, I would have one chance of recharging with the $150 plan.
If your phone is eSIM capable, the Optus app allows immediate activation of $1 flex plan(1-day validity) not sure how long the porting would take. The app would download the eSIM automatically and set it up
Porting to Optus on Flex is absolutely painful. Last time it took me 4-5 calls (yes, Optus say you can do it via Livechat but they had no idea…). I would advise OP to port to/from Kogan (for 4.90 - https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-sim-prepaid-starteā¦) or Amaysim over Optus just because it's so much easier.
(side note: changing from physical sim to eSIM on Optus Flex is even worse, have to go to a store to get a physical QR code and then do a sim swap)
Good to know. When I activated the flex plan on eSIM I just got a new number, but it did ask me if I wanted to port, which I didn't.
The number was pretty much active and running in like a minute, with the whole process taking less than 5mins.
This amaysim deal is pretty good, assuming you don't need much data

Amaysim normally have starter kits on sale which you can activate as long expiry (365 days)
Coles has an annual sim for $99 atm I think too
Woolworths mobile also good, you can get a starter pack and use the credit towards a 6 month plan which is what I did recently.
There are so many deals around ahaha guess it depends what you need out of it.
Why are you porting out? If you want to keep the $150/yr plan and your existing number, you can just recharge, even if the deal is no longer being offered. Have done this.
